I use Seagate and WD (Western Digital) Passport EHD. I've bought them at both Costco and Amazon in the past.

Thanks! That's what I have right now... 2 Seagates and a really old WD passbook, I think only 500GB, lol! It's huge and I even have to connect to an outlet!

The EHD that died on me was Toshiba.

Right now I have Seagate 2TB and 1TB.

I had terrible luck with my Seagate EHDs, I have 2-4tb WesternDigital that I got at one at Best Buy and one at Amazon. I use SyncBackPro , there's a free version of it, but I got pro so I could backup to Amazon as well.

Is your WD one that plugs into an outlet? That's great, 4tb! I need to get something like that..

What is SyncBack? And if you backup to Amazon, is that like Shutterfly?

When I posted was not sure of the brands.
I have:
1 T- I forget
2 T Seagate
4 T Seagate
and 600g - Lil Red.

I've got 2 Seagate EHD's. The first one started acting up and I can't add more to it, but I was able to transfer everything from that one to the new one. Phew!

@emscraps Yes Em, the WD's plug into an outlet. I forgot to mention I have a 4tb WD My Passport Ultra which is about the size of a deck of playing cards that just plugs into the usb on my laptop. I have my scrapping supplies and photos on it and then back it up to one ehd and then back up mirror ehd to the other one. Amazon Prime photos is free unlimited photo storage for Prime members and non-prime members can buy storage. The photos upload and download in their original resolution. There is a 5gb limit for video under the Prime plan so I don't upload those. I have all of my digi supplies backed up there as well. I've had Prime for years, we get our money's worth out of it. SyncBack is a file backup program, you can set it to back up at a certain time or after you exit a specific program. You can set a variety of different ways to back like mirroring drives, etc. They have a free version, I started using it years ago when someone at another site recommended it. I paid for the pro version, $25 because it is capable of backing up to Amazon.

I have used both Western Digital an Seagate. If you watch sales you can get the 2T and 4T at reasonable prices.

I really like the WD for a big hearty HD, maybe I'll get a 4tb, the one that Wendy posted??

The 2tb Seagate was a good deal at Costco, I think we got it for around $70

ugh... I get so nervous when they start acting up! I knew something was wrong with mine, but kept slacking on the backup... $400 later, it sure cost me!

Glad you were able to get it backed up before it went ka-put!

Hmm, I have Prime through my brother, I wonder if I could use it for unlimited photos. I'll have to check out SyncBack. Does it back up onto a cloud type account? Unlimited?

This has been a fabulous and informative thread! My son has an IT wired brain. He did a bunch of research a few years ago about Seagate vs WD and found WD to have the fewest issues. I have a 2T WD black box thing that I have everything downloaded to - kits and photos. I don't keep anything on my actual computer HD. Then I have my photos backed up again to a WD passport ehd and then again to another WD passport ehd that I keep at my mom's. I backup my phone to my WD box monthly and then every few months I will back up to my ehd my photos and kits. My photos automatically back up to Dropbox which works really well for me.
