Doilies

I've just been looking back over some of my LOs and realised that I often use the doilies that frequently appear in the gorgeous kits available to us here at GS. It got me to wondering if doilies are one of your favourite scrapbook elements? How about the real thing? Do you use doilies in your home? A few years ago, I removed all the doilies from my furniture and have gone with a more peeled back contemporary look but I couldn't make myself get rid of them..some of them were embroidered or crocheted by my grandma, my mum and myself so they are safely residing in a cupboard for the sake of sentimentality. Tell me YOUR story.

I use them on pages frequently. I just recently removed a number of doily from furniture in my home and washed them, haven't had a chance to research and ironing replace , I'm liking the look without them. I could never part with my grandmas handmade ones. I've often thought about framing them for preservation, and displaying

I think it is a great idea to frame and display your grandmothers handmade doilies Sherri!! I might just steal that idea:)

I tend to scrap with them as I like the texture against the paper. However I do not have any in my house. I do still have a couple hankies with crochet edges from the past generations.

I love them in the kits and need to start using them. I still use some on top of the piano, and under some plants. My friend has one of her grandma's tatted ones framed and it's lovely. On our last quilting trip my friend brought a bunch of her late mother's embroidered ones and used them on lovely quilted pillows for each of the granddaughters.

What an awesome idea Jeanne. I might steal that one too:)

Must have been the style in the 60's and 70's when I was growing, because I remember my mother having doilies on every dresser in every bedroom. Talk about dust magnets! They were always covered with powder or makeup or dust. So glad I don't own any.

I rarely use them on my layouts, although, I did just use one last week. Go figure! I guess I just needed something behind the pictures and I didn't have the right paint splatter.

I've been using doilies more and more, depends on the kit and the doily itself, but I think they lend a uniqueness to my pages. I have one framed doily in my house, that my great grandma made. I've been pinning a lot of "Farmhouse Style" pins (leaning towards changing my home decor) and think that doilies on a pillow would look really cute.

I occasionally use doilies on my layouts, if the kit I'm working with has them and if they seem to suit the layout. I don't have any doilies around the house, but my grandma (my mom's mom) taught me how to crochet them years ago when I wanted my crochet badge in Girl Guides!

Yesssss! I love to use doilies on my pages. One of the designers I CT for put a doily in almost every kit for a long time, just for me, LOL.

I have a few that my aunt made for me, but I don't keep them out, for their own protection. My sister is a doily lover too. She finds them at thrift stores and uses them as stencils or stamps in her art journal.
