...save both zip files and unzipped files? I'm asking this because, some time back and in order to save space, I stopped saving both extracted and zip files and started saving only the zip files externally. I had a computer crash last week and don't know how much can be saved from the computer...I am dreading that I might have to unzip all those hundreds of zip files again to get my kits back up and ready to use:(:( At least they are all safe in zip form but fingers crossed the extracted files can be saved so I don't have to do all the unzipping again.
 
Once unzipped - I delete. My digi stuff is backed up onto several EHD and if I would catch up, it would be on my SmugMug as well.
Templates: I save only the version I will scrap with [which is TIFF because the file size is smaller than psd, or it should be] and delete the rest. I also save only 1 jpg preview of the pack [not an individual jpg plus layered version].
Alphas- Keep either the individual letters or the sheet . Not both.
I also delete some of the letter characters I know I will never use.

I used to keep all of my zip files...I'm a little paranoid (even though I have everything backed up on a 2nd EHD and on Backblaze). This year, I deleted everything except 2016 & 2017. On Jan 1, I will delete 2016 and add a 2018 folder. I'm with Michi about templates...I only keep TIFF files for the same reason.
 
Before, I used to keep both when I was using a pc, because I was also thinking of the same thing. But now that mac unzips my downloads for me, I don't save them anymore.
 
I don't save any zipped files. I was actually thinking I need to start letting go of some older kits because my external drive is completely full and that is just silliness! Though It might be a good idea for me to zip up my PSD files of my pages I have done that I haven't printed yet. I like to save those til I print and know for 100% that the print is fine and I didn't screw up anything on the JPG.
 
I think I will change my habits and save only the unzipped files from now on. I keep my .psd files too, there have been numerous occasions when I have needed them to make changes down the track....one memorable occasion was when I got the twin granddaughters mixed up and created a whole LO and story around the wrong twin....bad grandma!! I still haven't lived that down:D

DOH! But yes this is exactly why I save my PSD files until I have printed and made sure everything is the way I want it.

Sadly it wasn't until this particular LO was printed that the mistake was found...by the twins' mother!!
 
I save both and have both backed up via BackBlaze. I have had times when I found I didn't unzip something, when I got the kit and so I can go back and get it from the zips. I have a hoarder mentality. I have kits from designers that haven't been around in years. I do move those off periodically to a separate EHD, but somehow I just can't delete them.
 
I hear you loud and clear Shauna...I have an EHD full of kits from my previous digi home. Even though I haven't used the for over 2 years, I just cannot make myself get rid of them.
 
I keep my zipped files on an EHD and backed up on Crash Plan. I can't live without my little Extract Now program, it unzips multiple files at once. I keep only TIFF files of Templates. When I switched to PSCC in April and switched from Organizer to Bridge I put on my big girl panties, an overly tight fit I assure you, took a deep deep breath and pushed the delete button on everything from one previous digi home and almost everything from another. Since I live exclusively at GS now I saw no reason to keep them and I also didn't feel like switching them all to Bridge. It was really hard to do, but they probably are still backed up on one of my EHD's or Crash Plan.
 
Having a chuckle over the big girl panties:D . I must go check out the unzip thingy....

Tammy, I absolutely LOVE it! My biggest frustration with Organizer was having to delete or rename it move to a different folder from within because if I didn't it would lose the "connection". With Bridge I can delete from anywhere or drag from one folder to another, rename, etc. without any issues. I also find it much easier to search multiple keywords or combination of keywords & filename. Really wished I'd moved to PSCC before spending the money on PSE15. I also like being able to edit in RAW within Bridge. Although Lightroom is included I have no plans to use it any time soon. I did wait almost 2 months before deleting PSE, but I'm fine without it.

As I'm working in Bridge I thought of another thing: I can have two separate screen of Bridge open at one time, one with pictures and another with scrapping materials....there are no catalogs to switch between.

I am ROLLING! That is so funny. I imagine you are doubly careful on layouts these days!

I save both - and backups of the unzipped version - I keep everything (even the 200 & 300 versions from DSP). I even keep stuff I don't like. They are in a folder called "Kits I don't like." I am a digital hoarder.

I also try to source the fonts used in any word art and save a copy of the font in the folder in case I ever want to match the WA in a layout - and any additional elements I might have created when I use the kit.

It is my goal to clear out my digital stash so I don't have extra copies of anything and also to (one day) be brave delete the zips.

Well, at least you are an organized hoarder.:36_1_7: I am very abstract random by nature, but the old librarian in me surfaces with scrapping, I have to have the stuff organized or I can't function. I use this great bulk renaming app so everything is labeled Designer_Name of Kit.....................maybe all of the organizing is a way of keeping me from diving in and actually scrapping.....hmm.....Is a scrap lift better than a face lift?

They are teens now, one likes colour in her hair and makeup and the other doesn't fuss too much over such things so they don't look so much alike any more but I am scrapping old photos and THAT is a challenge at times. I often have to call on their mother for identification if I don't have the photos labelled:)

This time around in my "scrapping career" I have actually dragged out some old LOs (with a saved .psd file) and done some redos with them. This time around, my scrapping is more about creating and playing in photoshop rather than making photobooks for the grandkids. I don't necessarily fuss about having a journalled story to go with the photos and I even scrap things OTHER than the grands these days....a whole new world for me, very enjoyable and freeing.

I'm pretty random and abstract too but I fusspot forever over putting things in the precise position on my scrapbook LOs...a nudge here, a tweak there..:)

I not only organize my kits very precisely, I have a spreadsheet of every kit I have ever purchased and I build Pretty Links for inclusion in the notes of my layout. One day I will get rid of the zip files, but I rather think it will around the same time I get rid of extra pictures (when I take 20 of the same view so I can get the perfect one and I keep them all!)

By the way - I love chatty threads - we all get to know each other a little better :)

Me too! We could get together and have a I never throw an extra picture away party, with me it's every picture of my grandkids and every nuance of their sweet faces, or move in what ever activity is going on. I just find it so hard to delete them.

My grandkids love it when I make waffles for breakfast when they have a sleepover.
 
Ok, here's my "waf"...............I'm a nudger and poker as well, Jill, when I'm doing a layout. It's part of the reason it takes me so long to actually produce one. Even when I finally print it, I seem to find something that needs to be nudged or prodded or altered a bit more.
 
Here's my "fle", so now I'm an official waffler :36_1_11: It's cold and windy here today, 42 degrees F but with the brisk wind, the wind chill is 32. Brrrrrrrrr. Actually a bit warmer than it typically is this time of year. I had my weigh in at weight watchers this morning and am down 16 pounds :) I have a ways to go, but one lady said she could see it in my face. I had a spot on my head checked out at the doctor yesterday after my stylist asked me about it at my hair appointment last week. I'd been watching it but hadn't done anything about it, I took a pic of it and sent it to my dil who's a Nurse Practitioner and she told me to get it checked out. I was afraid it could be skin cancer. I was relieved when the doctor told me it was an age spot which I'll take any day over worse things. They could remove it but insurance would probably call it cosmetic and not pay, I'm proud of the number of candles on my cake, 65, not everyone has a chance to accumulate that many.
 
I get 63 candles on 30th! If I work hard, I could catch up :)

I nudge a lot, too. I blow things up and fuss and bother and annoy the heck out of almost every layout I do. I have had my layouts rise up in protest and forbid me to scrap for a while. Some people call it Scrapper's Block, but I know the truth.

It is 104 here today - but I am in a nice cool office and have air conditioning at home. I am looking forward to kicking my feet up and relaxing, although I have a few more layouts to upload. I finished two last night and am almost done with the third one. These are part of the album for the reunion. I need to add some more pages to that, then I will do an album at ArtsCow, I think. I'll compare prices a bit, but I think that is the cheapest, and the quality is decent.

Then on to more albums...
