Do you crop off the bits hanging off the edge of your LO and therefore not visible to make the file size smaller? Someone once told me to click Select All on the .psd file, then go Image crop. This removes all the outside bits and it actually does reduce the number of megabytes. Anyone?

Yes I do. Not only does it save the file size, it can often prevent a funky shadow near the edge.

I do this when I make freebies but not for my files. That sounds like a good idea. I probably will not remember though, lol

It works, but it doesn't make my file size any smaller than 37m, which is what flatten layers does for me. If you ever want to change or move around things on the edge of your PSD, you won't be able to because you've cut your things that hang over the edge now.

Thanks ladies, I was wondering if it was a logical thing to do or just another step in a long line. It does make the .psd smaller and I do keep those files so I guess that is a good thing, but I don't always remember to do it....oops

Nope I dont, I keep my PSD files in case I want to change my page later down the track. I never do change it but I may one day

Sounds like a good idea to do if you do keep the PSD files or if you have images close to the edge. Otherwise I think it would just be an extra step that you don't really need to do.

I use GIMP and this is always my final step when creating a layout - crop image to bottom layer.

I haven't checked that out Kiana, but someone further back in this thread said that it didn't. I will test it out next time I have a LO ready

I usually save a file is TIFF for personal use. But when I want to put it in a gallery/forum I do "crop" the image. This also makes it easier to drag and drop the LO to my web size file.
