Do you use

your templates more than once? I am still having a hard time using templates, but have started using them. years ago when I did digi there wasn't so many and they weren't popular so I didn't use them. I think some of them are really cool and it is easier sometimes, but I seen on another message board a lady said that she only uses them once because she said" she wants her layouts to be different". I thought this was crazy. what do you think?

Yes I use my templates more than once. They are just a "base" for your layout.

Did you know you can rotate your layout 90 degrees for a completely different look? And then rotate it another 90 degrees for another look as well as rotate it once more for another completely different look? That's three different layouts, with one template rotating it!

Did you know you can add/remove extra photos for another different look?

Did you also know you can move the photos around the layout, basically redoing the template for a completely different look?!

Templates are amazing, addicting and awesome. If you are only using your template one, you are missing out on a lot more opportunities for more layouts!!

Okay, I might be biased because I make templates. But I've been doing the above to templates for YEARS and I have YEARS worth of templates on my harddrive that are like GOLD to me!

Okay, I'm back with visuals this time!!

Here I have Pixie Plate #199 by Neverland Scraps (that's me). This is the original template:

Here are three different looks with it being rotated:

The key to this is not scrapping the same photo series that would go side by side because then people might
pick up on what you've done. But if these pages are a couple pages away, it wouldn't be noticeable.

Using the same Pixie Plate, you can add photos (I did just the bare minimum)

You can always add more photos, remove more photos and change it around. But for time's sake, I only added one photo.

Another thing you can do it is use the photo places and move them around to fit the style that you are looking for. Take the paper pieces in the background and rearrange them as well. Obviously the element placements are just there for looks because as you scrap your layout, you'll be adding your own elements. But again, for time's sake, I did the bare minimum because I'm not using this template to scrap so I have no reason to alter it as much as I would if I were using it for my next layout.

I hope I was able to show you a little bit more how you can get more bang for your buck when it comes to using templates.

THanks for all the ideas!! as I said before, there wasn't that many around years ago when I did digi and I am just getting the addiction now!! I so change things around some and use them as my base or inspiration, I just thought it was crazy when I ready that post on another site.

Peggy, in my previous digi home (now closed) I rarely used templates and was a bit pompous about that fact, I am ashamed to admit. I thought they were stifling to creativity, I thought the completed LO was not totally my own, and blah blah blah. I have had my eyes and mind opened since arriving at GS and now I am addicted to templates! Like Wendy says above, rotate, flip, remove bits, add bits, select the layers above the highest bg paper and reduce them in size or realign them to a different position...so much you can do to make it your own, Use and re-use I say:)

Wendy, I love the message in your "siggie":D

I used to re-use templates a lot more than I do now. Why? Well, I'm a creative team member for some wonderful template designers, and so I'm fortunate enough to always have new templates to play with! I'm also a template junkie, so tend to buy templates from my favourite designers (whose CTs I'm not on) when they are on sale. So I have more templates than I will probably ever use!

Some templates I do use "as is" - others I will change things up to better suit my needs. I almost always scrap with templates these days, although occasionally I will make a layout without one.

Wendy, I love the message in your "siggie"

It's on my list of things to do, but for now it's the least of my priorities. People can be reminded what a stinker Photobucket is, especially as we try to fix the problem they caused so abruptly. :D Besides, making siggies stress me out BIG TIME! It's like an all day affair with me and even then, I usually hate it! Siggies are my kryptonite. :36_6_1:

I have taken templates and duplicated and added so I have all the items two and three times in a template, moved things around and other things. I generally only use them once though because I do a lot of my own work and the number of photos does not always work although at times I have added photos to a template.

yes, yes! I love templates, it's a great way to jump start my brain! lol.

Like Wendy, I'm constantly changing it up. I like to use large photos, so I often combine photo spaces to make a big one from the little boxes in the template. Or sometimes I don't use as many papers as the template calls for. Good luck!

I've used the same one for double page spreads and rotate one or the other or both. I seldom use as is mainly because I can't figure out what to use LOL !

I use templates all the time! I have quite a collection of freebies from the "old days" so I just use those and new ones I've bought. Couldn't scrap without 'em! :D

I am a template ADDICT!!!! I have a tough time scrapping without a template - unless I'm using a sketch, and BUILDING a template!!! I reuse them a lot, every which way, just like everyone else says. I mirror for a facing page for a double layout. I rotate, flip, move photo spots and elements around. Add photo spots, remove them, you name it! I love fiddling around with them to make layouts look totally different even with the same template.

Yes, I use templates more than once. I do have my favorites that I use more than I should. But don't forget, the can be flipped and turned and photo spots can be added and deleted and shrunk or enlarged. Think of templates as a starting point. You can use them as is or make them your own.

Love templates!!!
Use them, reuse them, flip and rotate them , add and remove bits and pieces...... what more could you want :)
