Do you keep your challenge layouts?

I'm just curious to see how people approach the monthly challenge here on GingerScraps. When you finish a layout for a challenge, do you:

  • Print the layout and/or add it to a keepsake album
  • Keep the file on your computer, but don't do anything else with it
  • Delete it when the challenges are done for the month

I do a bit of the first two. Some layouts I really like and print them for my albums, but others I use for practice and then they just kind of sit on my hard drive. If I think one had potential but was limited by the terms of the challenge or by lack of time, I might revisit it later and clean it up more. The layouts I edit later tend to be added to an album.

What about you?

I am addicted to the challenges and that is primarily the only scrapping I do other than a birthday or Christmas card occasionally. I print only the pages I make about my great grandson now having created books for all the grandkids up until they were about 12 and photo availability seemed to dry up around then. I keep all my LOs on an EHD in three versions....psd, .jpg and web...over the top probably but that is the habit Ive gotten into.

I try to keep mine so I can make it into a family photo/scrap book, but there are several I'll just hang on to only because it was just for the challenge. I'll probably weed out older layouts once I make more and start organizing them into years.

I tend to use family photos even with challenge pages, so of course I keep those. Rarely do I use stock photos. Whenever I get around to making books, I won't use the ones with stock photos. :)

I don't often do challenges as I create almost exclusively for a creative team of some sort. I also don't use stock photos. All my photos are ones I or my family have taken ourselves. That said, I keep all my layouts on an EHD in PSD, JPG and web-size formats. I have cropped many to 8x10 and printed to put in frames on my living room console table. I might eventually get around to putting them in books.

I keep all mine. I never use stock photos because they have no meaning for me. I do create books for my family and friends. It's nice to have something tangible.

I am not doing challenges just to complete them. I use them to challenge me to get scrapping done and maybe push me to try different things. If I am going to take the time to create a page it is going to use photos from my stash and I would never create a layout just to get rid of it later. I take tons of photos so don't use stock photos, so all of my layouts are meaningful to my family and I.

I'm in full agreement that I only use personal photos that have meaning to me, and that I use the challenges to help me get personal scrapping done. That being said, sometimes I will complete a page for a challenge, and then tweak it before it gets filed for personal use. :)

Thanks for the responses so far! It seems like lots of people prefer to keep their layouts which is awesome! To be honest, using stock images for challenges never occurred to me until very recently, when completing a challenge for another forum and the designer running the challenge provided a link for Pixabay. I still prefer to use my own photos, though. It feels more personal that way

I cannot remember ever using stock photos but recently, I have been having way too much fun using AI rendered images over my own photos. I feel ambivalent about AI and worry a little about its potential negative impact but oh it is such fun to dabble.

I completely agree. I definitely like the personal photos and always end up choosing those over an AI or stock imaged layout for LOTW. For my own scrapping, I would be far more tempted to use an AI or stock image if I had a meet a layout requirement OR if I needed to scrap a certain topic that I had zero photos about. Since I am avoiding being on a CT due to baby 2 coming in November, it makes it easier for me to stick to that goal of using my own photos. It's my username after all. :)

I love the challenges, helps me challenge myself and try new ideas. I only use my own photos or those taken by others with permission. I print a book when all the pages are completed therefore I often have many books on the go.

I keep mine and plan on printing them. Almost all of layouts are about my family and a few friends. I have two friends that I am making for them. One of my friends was my next door neighbor until I moved. I am working slowly on their wedding a gift. They now have a baby who is adorable and always has on the cutest outfits. Jill is absolutely gorgeous. I have another friend who has the cutist baby pictures . My oldest daughter past away in January and I am working on some of her pages when was younger.

I only scrap pictures I have or get from friends. Very rarely do I not scrap photos unless it is the last layout I need for a challenge or it is a journal only page.
I do save my layouts in TIFF and PNG. When I do print, I usually resize down to 10x10 and print on my home printer and put in page protectors and put in a binder.

Challenges motivate me to complete pages for my family albums. I don't do a challenge unless it is meaningful. Even when I was doing CT work, the pages were always meaningful to me.

Jill, I recently used AI to generate a title (word art) for a page. It was fun!
