Do you have your own font?

I read about this on Facebook tonight and thought I'd give it a try. It was pretty easy. So, I thought I'd share. If you do not already have your very own font, you might want to try it. I scanned everything with my antivirus and had no problems. Of course in order to share I had to scrap the instructions, lol.

Here's the link to the site ... https://www.myscriptfont.com/

You need to have a printer and a scanner to do this, but it's actually quite fast. You don't even need to give any ID info, you submit the form and get the font within a few minutes.

I wasn't happy with my first attempt when I tried to write in my normal cursive script, so I re-did it, and printed the second time around. I like it a lot better. I just updated the image as well.

How cool! I've been meaning to get my own handwriting as a font....just have never done it. Thanks for sharing. Neat display with your LO .

Well this is very odd. I just clicked on the link again this morning and the site has changed slightly. I think you all broke it, lol.

I notice a few things that are different. Last night I had simply copied and pasted the instructions right from the screen.

Last night it said
Upload the scanned template (JPG, TIFF or PNG).
Max. filesize for uploaded files is 2 MB.

Today is says...
Upload your templates as PDF (multipage supported), JPGs or PNGs.
Max. filesize for uploaded files is 5 MB.

Plus the template that you download has changed a bit. Hmmmm.

Here's their How-To Tutorial

I have done one like this in the past - and should do it again as some of my letters looked "off". But would love one that looks like my writing - would be fun to use for my project life pages!

I have always wanted to do this in fact I printed off the template and filled it out and never scanned it in....I need to go do it again if the template changed thanks for the reminder!

I want to try it but I need to scan and extract from my old handwritten journals. My writing has gotten to the point of completely illegible and I'd love to have my old handwriting and printing as a computer font! I'm going to see if extracting and putting the letters in the template works. :)

I'm sure it would Nani. I had written two of my letters too high in the box so that they were outside of the parameters. I extracted them and moved them down so they fit into the box. Turned out fine.

I think if I did it with a sharpie, it would have turned out better.

I LOVE it Michelle. Super cute. I used a sharpie. I haven't gone back to the site yet, but I'm going to make one with printing. I print better than I write these days, lol. Thanks for sharing. :)

I have my own font but I don't use it. I like the look of other people's handwriting for my journaling better than mine!

I dislike the disconnect of the cursive fonts when they are done like this. I haven't seen any that "connect". I am lucky because Pea Squeaker (a Kevin and Amanda font) looks almost like mine anyway! you will see that I use it A LOT!! :)

I completely agree Missi. That's the main reason I want to try one with printing vs writing. My own handwriting does NOT have spaces in between each letter. I just thought it was a fun thing to try.

My first try did NOT come out OK at all. I had a hard time with getting it to upload and then when it did my letters were anything but in a straight line. I realized after I printed the template that there were a couple more things I'd like to use, so I'm going to give another try at a later time. I love the IDEA of this though. I really want it to work. :) I've been debating about paying to have my handwriting turned into a font. :)

Oh my gosh Lisa.... the heck with my own font .... I want yours!!!!! It's super cute. (Seriously, I want it, lol.)

Diana I had no trouble uploading the template ... but I did have a hard time being consistent in the way I wrote inside the little boxes. I'm sure you would have much better results if you paid the have a font made.

What are the rules? Are you allowe dto share your font? Is there a way to download other people's fonts? May have to go look.

I had to go look Missi. I'm not an expert, I just discovered the site a few days ago, and shared the info the same night.

Frequently asked questions
https://www.myscriptfont.com/faq.html

What can I do with this tool?
You can create a vector font from drawings, e.g. your handwriting.

How much does it cost?
This tool is for free, for private and commercial use.

Do I own the created fonts?
We don't claim any rights on the created fonts.
If you create a font without using another font, the resulting font will belong to you.
If you use another font as base font, it becomes more complicated. In this case you have to consider the licence of the base font. Only use fonts as base fonts where you are sure that you have all required rights.

I forgot to select a few characters / or a character is faulty!
In this case you don't have to start from scratch. You only have to create a font with the missing or faulty characters. Then reuse the already created font as a base font ("Upload Form" > "Advanced Options" > "Base Font File"). The reused font will be extended with the new characters from the uploaded templates. If a character already exists in the reused font, it will be overwritten with the new character.

There is a large space before or after a character!
The reason could be a spot in the corresponding template cell. Remove this with a paint software and try uploading again. If you don't have a paint program, you could make a new template with only the faulty character and use the existing font file as a base font.

I didn't see any reason why not, it specifies that unless you started with a base font, it is YOURS. So if you want to share that would be lovely!! :)

Michelle V2 turned out great. Thanks for sharing. I downloaded it. :) You named it 'Mine', lol. I tried to re-name it Michelle-MSPeeler, but it's still called Mine. But's it's not Mine it's Yours, hahaha. Super cute.

My font Version 2... :)

I also re-did my 'instructions layout' using this version.

This is very much recognizable to me as my own printing. The first one, in the cursive, didn't look right at all.

LOL! I was getting so frustrated with the naming, I kept installing the one called "MSPeeler" an couldn't fine it. So I named it with a ! in the front to find it first in my list!!! Lol

This is awesome, thank you so much, Arlene!! I'm going to have to play around with it some more, I can't figure out the spacing. Also, how come my outer boxes keep showing up, too?
