I am fortunate to live in Minnesota where we have the Great Minnesota Get Together every August. Our state fair is massive and so much fun. What are your state fairs like? Do you go? Are they near you? Is it an annual tradition? Cant wait to hear how other states celebrate! We have everything on a stick here...lol

How did I not know you are a fellow Minnesotan? Haven't been in years! After my back "exploded" one morning 16 years ago, walking a lot really isn't an option. I did NOT however let that stop me in Hawaii. I used to love to go to the fair to drink beer and people watch :) Loved the Vitamix guy too, and the hawkers selling their wares under the grandstand.

Not close enough for our State Fair (Syracuse, NY I believe...and it's almost 4 hours away from me)...but we have a pretty large County Fair (Erie County) which we try to go to a couple times while in it's 12 day duration.

The food is the best, and every year it's always fun to see what kind of new concoctions they come up with. And they seem to DEEP FRY EVERYTHING!!! Tacos, raviolis, oreos, cool aide, butter, twinkies, snickers, cheesecake, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, peanut butter and jelly, pickles, manicotti, reeses, cookie dough, cheese curds, pierogi, gummy bears...are only some of the deep fried goodies! Donut burgers were a favorite too...sooo yummy...sweet and salty!

I like to visit the animals, eat, and browse the vendors :) Now that my kids are older we don't tend to do the rides or games as much. We like the hypnotist, random acrobat shows and pig races. I used to march in the fair marching band when I was in high school...so I try to catch them perform too. My son goes every year with my brother-in-law for the demolition derby which he loves.

** I almost forgot! Playing "I Got It" and kettle corn is always a must!!!

I have never gone to our state fair here in Nevada - but I hear it's a fun Rodeo type fair. I used to go to a lot of county fairs because I followed some bands who did the fair circuits.

I live in Canada. We don't have states. So we don't have state fairs. We do have exhibitions in the summer. One of the biggest is the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.

Our state fair is within 40 minutes. However, very crowded. I don't ride rides or eat fair food. I hardly ever go.

I occasionally go to our county fair, which is massive, but a state fair would be a little much. I have zero tolerance for crowds and awful parking. :) I love the idea of a fair more than an actual one.

I live in sunny Queensland & we have an agricultural show, which would be the equivalent of a state fair but on a smaller scale & they aren't really too agricultural anymore. Really haven't been in about 4 years to either of our local shows as they have moved one from where it used to be to make way for the commonwealth games village & now both have little parking so its a pain to get there

Since my son is in 4H we go to our county fair every year - love seeing all the exhibits and eating the foods. Also we try to go to some of the concerts too. Lots of fun. I grew up about 2 hrs from where the Minnesota State Fair is (I was in WI though) and we went a few times. I went to the Wisconsin State Fair once - but since it is 3 hrs away, and the week after our county fair so it's hard to take off more time from work we don't usually go.

We go to the California State Fair every year. Of course, we are only about 20 minutes away, so that makes it easy.
We love to eat the food (fried zucchini and frozen treats). They try to deep fry everything here. Each year is some new thing deep fried - Twinkies, candy bars, brownies and more. I like to stick the the basic. We love to take the kids to explore things like Camp Smoky (learning about fire safety), Farm (learning about fruit & veggies and do a scavenger hunt to get a goody bag), check out that year's theme area (magic, or dinosaurs, etc), and the Forest area where we can get a free seedling of an evergreen.
We also love to go thru the Expos with all the County displays and the "hawkers" of items.
