Designers who are gone

If a designer is not here anymore can we still use her kits? I've been on Karen Schulz' CT team since forever and she's now leaving.

Hi there!
Great question, I totally understand wanting to continue using kits from designers you love and have worked with for a long time.

When a designer retires or leaves GingerScraps, we generally allow a 30-day grace period where they are still considered a GS designer for posting in the gallery and participating in challenges. After that time, their products are treated as coming from a non-GS designer.

The good news is that our gallery always allows up to 50% of a layout to include products from non-GS designers, so you can continue to scrap with Karen Schulz’s products even after she’s no longer with us, as long as at least 50% of the layout uses products from current GS designers.

Just keep in mind that some challenges may have different requirements, so be sure to read the rules for each challenge carefully.

For example, if a designer officially closes their shop on September 1, the grace period ends on October 1, and after that you'd just follow the usual 50/50 guideline.

Hope that helps, and thank you for checking in!

I am so sad to see Karen go, I liked her style and the Tips and Tricks challenges were educational and entertaining. I rarely scrap outside of the challenges and only participate here at GS, so it is always a wrench to "lose" some of my favourite kits. I wish Karen well in whatever direction her life takes her and am happy to have a heads up about her departure, rather than completing a LO using her products for a challenge only to discover she is no longer here...it happens.

What about template challenges? Are they considered 50%? Like if I use a template from Miss Fish and a kit say from Karen S. after the month is up would I still be able to use it?

Linda dear, templates count at 15% of your total, so you'd need to use some papers, elements, etc., from a GS designer in order to reach the 50 % required, and combine it with Karen's stuff. For example if your layout includes a template (from Miss Fish), 1 brush from GS designer, 3 elements from GS designer, then you can include 5 elements or papers from Karen, or 1 template from Miss Fish, 1 word bit, 1 paper and 2 elements from GS designs and 5 elements from Karen, hope it makes sense.

I'm gonna miss Karen's stuff, and I'm not part of her CT, but I've collected a lot stuff from her during years that I've follow her, I wish her well in all her future endeavors.

I wish Karen well too, retirement is more tiring than working. :geek: I have used my wages well by getting her lovely stuff, I'm sad that I wont be able to use them on here now. I don't put layouts anywhere else these days. Good luck, Karen!
