Cricut or Silhouette

Thinking of getting a die-cutting machine to make stickers and other hybrid projects. Cricut or Silhouette...what do you think?

I have both - so I think I can speak to this.

You have a lot more flexibility with a Silhouette, but there is a MUCH steeper learning curve.

I like the simplicity of the Cricut.

If I could have only one, I would pick the Silhouette. But I have both and I use both.

What are some things I can't do on Cricut but could on Silhouette

I can't speak to what a Cricut can do - but I have owned a Silhouette for years, in fact, I think I have one of the originals and it still works great!
I have made all sorts of things with my Silhouette, from stickers to vinyl cuts, to books. I recently started using the program to design my own planner inserts - I found it is much easier than using Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

After doing some research - I settled on a Silhouette- primarily because the Design Space software is downloaded to the computer versus using an online design space for the Cricut. Maybe that has changed as I purchased a couple years ago. I also upgraded the designing Software to the most advanced Edition- there are often sales so I would wait and take advantage of that. I believe you can download the Silhouette basic edition for free and play around with it - I found sufficient tutorial resources. I agree with the statement above the learning curve - it seems overwhelming but any new program is and the tutorial videos are very helpful. It seems like most the stores in my area (Walmart, JoAnns, Hobby Lobby) cater more to the Cricket supplies which is okay as the majority of general materials can be used by both units. Just may have to order special add-on tools on line.

I have a Cricut Expression, but it's the old style where you used cartridges. Soon thereafter, I bought a Silhouette Portrait (the smaller one, because I didn't have enough space for the larger one and I didn't want to spend a bunch of money if I didn't use it), and I loved it! I recently bought a Cameo 3 for pretty cheap, since the Cameo 4 had already come out. I haven't installed it yet. A lady I work with just got a Cricut, but we haven't had a chance to sit down and "compare notes." There was a learning curve, just like anything else, but I really like my Silhouette. I make mostly cards. Good look making your decision!

There are a lot of free tutorials on Silhouette, one in particular with an instructor named Melissa. It's a blog and a FB group.

Definitely the Silhouette! Print and cut is my favorite. One of the big differences I hear about often is that with Cricut you have to be online to use it. I want the new one :)

I bought my daughter the cricket explore air 2 for her college grad gift (she is now a teacher) she loves it and learned it very quickly.

I have both as well
I loved my silhouette, until an upgrade caused me to loose all my files. I was so annoyed with silhouette for not helping me recover years of my work and stash that I bought a cricut explore air. it is super easy and easy to convert /use files that are not sold by cricut.
For my divorce i gifted myself the new Cricut Maker where you can cut so many more materials. So far life hasn't given me the time to be able to test things out there. But it is on the list
