Clipping?

Is there a way to clip a solid colored paper to an image, let's say a multi colored fish, and keep the detail of the fish, but have it all be the same hue as the colored paper? When I use the clipping mask it just makes the fish a solid shape with no detail. Thank! I hope you know what I mean, lol! Oh, I have Photoshop Elements 13 I think.

I change the blending mode to Multiply in most cases and it works. Good Luck!
