Backup-Photo Storage

So just curious what online backup services any of you use....I bought a local EHD, which I still have to set up, but am considering another type of backup for my photos mostly. My area is offering a service from Forever.com, but I know nothing about them. Anyone use something like this or have a good recommendation for where you store your photos/Family History files so they won't get lost?

Thanks!

I have a smug mug acct that I am using in addition to my EHD.s.
I did NOT have a good experience with Carbonite.

Sorry, it would cost many to much for me to save all my photos on any external services. I save them on my external HD, burn them on a DVD - and try to put every good one in photobooks or prints.

I know several that use Smug Mug. At one time I tried a couple like Backblaze (unlimited for $5/month)...BUT, the rate at which it was backing up vs. the rate I was downloading digi kits and taking high resolution photos did not work out for me. I have a fairly fast internet connection, but it was a good 6 months behind me and unfortunately I had a crash and lost the most recent 6 months of work I had done...=(.

My computer guru friend set me up with a raid array. There are 4 hard drives that "share" the info and if one goes bad you replace it and the other 3 "save" the material back onto it. I still need to create backup DVDs to then save somewhere outside of my home in case of fire, but with the amount I have I would need a ton of DVDs.

This is the perfect method, but - my money bag is not full enough for that ;)

Oh...I don't even HAVE a money bag! LOL! =) After adopting my daughter from a previous high school student of mine I stepped out of my classroom to be MOM. So, we are living on a single teacher's salary. I just decided I would rather apply for a store credit card or use an existing credit card and pay maybe $10/mo for a better solution rather than pay half and chance it. As my computer friend said..."it isn't IF your EHD is going to die...it's WHEN". Raids fail too, but you can at least be sure you'll still have your stuff.

I totally understand about tight budgets since we've been on one for many years now. Look for sale prices, 12 months/same as cash deals and if you have any computer/techie friends they always seem to know where the deals are!! =) Good luck!

I use backblaze, but I also upload all of my photos to Shutterfly which has free, unlimited photo storage. Honestly, I haven't really printed photos for years, but when I do have the extra cash, I know they are all saved on Shutterfly. I have a EHD, but I think there is something wrong with it and I don't know too much about it so it's been collecting dust, LOL.
