Aside from gifts etc, what is your favourite part of the holidays?

Just curious as to what your favourite part of the holidays are. All aside from gifts, shopping etc.

I think one of my favourite things is the quiet lull on Christmas Eve after the kids go to bed. I love sitting with the music on or a favourite movie with DH (or alone) cuddling under a blanket and just looking at the tree.

I love to bake things and I love to see the anticipation on my kids' faces the days leading up to Christmas Day.

I love when it snows on Christmas Eve, a gentle falling snow, not a blizzard lol, but it hasnt' snowed much here on Christmas in the last few years. We are in for a mild winter they say, so probably not again this year either.

I always have this fantasy of having a Christmas like in a sappy Hallmark movie (the one with Candace Cameron Bure where she goes to buy the resort and ends up falling in love with the son comes to mind) with a fire going and a big tree and everyone in the family here on Christmas morning together to open gifts. That doesn't happen, but I still love the idea of it!

My favorite is right after the tree is decorated. We listen to xmas music while decorating, but I always put on the same song when we finish because the lights just dance. It is quiet and peaceful and even the kids are calm. That couple of minutes right after the tree is decorated, it is my favorite time of the season!

I also really love the few minutes that I have before the kids come downstairs on xmas morning. They are up super early and they wake us up and I go downstairs, turn on the lights and the music, put the breakfast cinnamon buns in the oven and the coffee on, and enjoy those 5 quiet minutes before all chaos breaks loose.

Clearly with a 7 and a 9 year old, I like the 10 minutes of calm I get all season.

I love the traditions that we have at Christmas. We really don't have many at other times of the year.

Our Christmas DVD basket comes out of the cabinet on Dec 1 and every evening from Dec 1 to Dec 24 we watch a Christmas movie.

There are a few neighborhoods near us that have beautiful Christmas light displays. We take one evening and drive around looking at the lights.

Since we don't have a fireplace in our apartment, we turn fireplace on the TV on Christmas morning and open presents together and then make a big breakfast. This year is going to be a bit strange because of my daughter getting married in January. I don't think they're planning on being here Christmas morning.

oh I always love the quiet time with my boys.... it has changed much in the last years because we are now only alone! I love going to the church and after that the time with my boys because these times are really rare ;-)

Me too. I like getting up before the kids. Even my 6 year old sleeps in on Christmas morning (at least she has so far!). I also make Cinnamon buns on Christmas morning. :)

We have a fireplace but it's not functional at the moment. We've used the TV fireplace for the last five years too!!! :) Too funny.

I love the tree...it is full of ornaments from our childhood as well as our many trips. Instead of souvenirs we buy ornaments from our destinations. We have ornaments from Paris, Trips to Disney, Universal, New York and more....I loved picking up the ones where the kids have their hand prints on it as well as one that is a napkin from our wedding...tons of memories. :)

Second would be Christmas lights. I love going to different neighborhoods and looking at lights.
