Anyone else buried??

So...yes, I'm in Buffalo, NY and unless you haven't seen the news (I'm pretty sure it's International news now) you know about our lake effect storm!

It is definitely as bad as they say...I'm not sure any of these photos really do the shear amount of snow any justice but...

This is out my side door...I can't get out just barely opened it enough to stick my phone out and take this shot. The big blob to the left...my car is under there somewhere...eek! Those look like cat tracks which makes me really nervous what we will find when we are finally able to dig ourselves out!

This one is my back deck. I have a fence that is completely buried and the drift hanging off the roof was bigger last night and we knocked it down...this one "grew" back over night.

The stairs from my back deck into my yard...I'm guessing we have over 5 feet right now. Some of the drifts are up to 8' tall.

I've lived here all my life and we are a pretty resilient community...a little snow doesn't scare us. But THIS!? Plows can't even move it...our snow is chest deep in the street. We are going to need front loaders and dump trucks to haul this stuff out! I don't even know where to start trying to dig out. There really is know place to put it!

I am VERY thankful we still have power and heat! We have food for a few days and we are all safe...I guess that is what matters!

Oh my gosh! That's crazy! Yes, I've read about all the snow and seen other photos. I just didn't "know" anyone that was in it. Well, I hope it melts a little (slowly) or something soon, so you can dig your way out. You guys will be in my thoughts!

I'm impressed that you still have electricity and internet!

I am right across Lake Erie in Hamilton (used to live in Dunnville!). If the wind had changed, that would have been us! I am thankful you are safe and sound! I just saw on our news that you are getting another 1-2 feet today/tonight. I am thinking of all of the people of Buffalo and praying that they are all okay. I have never seen snow this bad, it's even worse than the Blizzard of 77 that crippled all of southern Ontario and Buffalo! We had four feet then (I was 9) and were stranded in our house for a week! I remember my dad blowing out our kitchen window on our second floor to try to get outside to move snow from the front door.

What are they saying about the thaw that is forecast? It's supposed to get up to 45-50 F (10-12 C) on Sunday!

I have been seeing the pics on the news and am THANKFUL not to live there! I'm near Seattle so we get ridiculous amounts of rain, but so far...no flooding...YET! I'm glad you guys haven't lost power!! You would think the weight of the snow would cause some issues with lines and such, but let's hope NOT!

The snow for now has stopped...but this is not the worst of it. It is supposed to get up to 60 degrees by Sunday...the thaw is going to be quick and massive! I will be preparing my basement for the inevitable flooding that is bound to happen.

We just saw a glimpse of a front loader at the street that runs perpendicular to ours...hoping our street is next for some clearing out! My daughter and I braved the streets and walked the mile or so to the grocery store today...it took us about 2 hours but we are at least stocked with supplies and food for a few more days. Hopefully the gas station will be open tomorrow...we burned an entire tank in our snowblower getting it from the shed to our fence. It certainly would be helpful...I can't lift the snow anymore...shoveling is way too much!

Wow, the street is FULL of snow too!!! and a thaw in the forecast! *gasp* not a good combination!
I think that blizzard of 77 hit Montreal too (where I was living at the time, I grew up there) and I remember we all put on our cross country skis and went to the convenience store to get supplies! People had skidoos and everyone was helping out other neighbours... (people had skidoos only because there was a forest behind the suburb)..... Good luck. Stay warm!

Seriously crazy! My students and I have been seeing stories on CNN Student News.... they were talking today about roofs being damaged because of the weight of the snow and people being rescued by snowmobile because that's the only way to get to some. They showed some views from the air as well.... wow. I'm so glad to hear that you still have power; that's pretty amazing! Will keep you and all in Buffalo in my thoughts. They were saying today that it is supposed to rain over the weekend, which will surely be a mess and result in a lot of flooding. Ugh. Stay safe!

I know you will hit or kick me, but: I would love it to change. We can be happy here to get one feet of snow - and YES, I love winter! :blush:36_1_32::blush

Oh I'm with you Melly...I love winter and my fair share of snow :) Sadly, we have another month before winter hits and we have received an entire season's worth of snow in 3 days! Last night we had front loaders clean up one car width in our street which is a huge help! We were able to get some of the driveway cleared...tomorrow we have to get my car out! My shoulders and back are shot! Not sure how much more I can move!

Here are a few more photos...at least I'm getting great scrapping material! hehe

Sled parking at the grocery store since we still have a travel ban!

Ohhhh what photos and I have watched the news. I cannot fathom that amount of snows !!!!
but then again, I live in Florida....but cold here...electric blanket and the heater.
m

Ohhhh Cindy BIG (((HUGS))) to you guys! We have al been watching this on the news and it is an astronomical amount of snow! Last year in MN, we got a total of 68" all year, so you guys got more than we had all year, in a matter of days, I seriously can't begin to imagine, and so happy you can all maintain a sense of humor through it all! I know that, sadly, there have been many deaths from this storm, so I'm happy you are all alive and well and at least able to get out and replenish your food and drink supply. A.MAZ.ING photos too, thanks for sharing, and keep safe!

Oh yuck, I can't imagine how bad it will be when it starts to thaw and so quickly too. You're photos are amazing though, especially the 2nd set you posted and you're right, now you have lots to scrap when you're stuck inside from the thaw! Way to look for the silver lining! :D

Oh, my! The most snow I've seen at one time was few years when we got almost 3 feet in 3 days. I can't even imagine the amount that you have. Glad you're safe.

Oh Cindy!!! I cannot imagine! I have today pics but on iphone.. Oh yes a page from our area tomorrow.
m
ps- spring is coming, I think.

Cindy, how are things there after all the rain you've been having? I'm thinking that there must be a lot of flooding. I hope you're dealing with everything alright.

Oh my! The photos are gorgeous, but being a So Cal girl, I can't even imagine what it would be like to live in it! I don't watch the news much, but I did hear you had a lot of snow out there. I hope life returns to normal soon.

We just had a little snowfall yesterday and it is still here today. You can still see grass poking up through it so it isn't anything to get excited about. I really don't like snow, so while I'm glad it made an appearance for my husband and daughter's sake (they love it) I'm ready for it to go and just be summer again!! LOL!
