Alpha Titles

I've been scrapping for many years now, and am just starting to get comfortable with using alphas for titles.

Looking back at my pages, I find my alphas are all always lined up horizontally. I don't seem to have much luck when I try to place them randomally in a row ...

What about you? Do you use alphas for titles and what tips do you have to share about how you place them on your page?
 
I use PSE10 and what works for me...
I drag all the letters for my word onto the page (which they all fall into the center). Than I select all letters of said word and resize them all down together. With the grid turned on I than place the letters where I want them lining them up on the grid.
Sizing was my biggest issue until I "learned" to group them all together when sizing down.

Hope that helps somewhat.
 
I like things to be asymmetrical. I will change the spacing a bit or tilt a few letters so that they are not placed perfectly.
 
I like to vary the shadow depth when overlapping letters so the “top” letters look a little higher off the page. I also like mixing an alpha word and fonts together for titles.
