Allergies?

Anyone allergic to everything? or children with allergies? Seems like we discover a new one with my 3yo constantly. She puffed up from something last night and we don't know what it was. She is allergic to horses, milk, oats, mold, and most pollen... I guess I should be thankful that she is growing out of the milk and doesn't have a bunch more food allergies, but I feel like I need a support group...

Oh no :( Poor her (and you!) My youngest (also 3) is allergic to milk. We have good friends whose daughter is severely allergic to tree nuts, so I know the hassle of shopping for someone with allergies, every time we had them over or parties or whatever you have to read the label on EVERYTHING. :( So hard, and scary! I know my friend was always grateful when her daughter came here, as she didn't need to worry as she knew I was diligent about checking, but how scary to send her elsewhere or to school for that matter, and have to worry about her throat swelling up and her not being able to breath!

Eek!

My oldest was allergic to strawberries when he was a baby, but he has outgrown it now, my youngest has just now (at 5) outgrown an allergy to avocados. I still have an allergy to MSG and artificial sweeteners. I know the pain of having to read each and every label at the grocery store.

Oh no! Poor little thing! I was very allergic to grass and dust when I was younger, but have mostly outgrown it. My middle son is allergic to furry animals. We have 2 cats and he's (mostly) okay with them, but my mom has 4 cats and he has to med-up (Benadryl) before we go over there. He loves dogs, but is allergic to them. And, anytime we go to a petting zoo, we make sure he has Benadryl....he's older now, so we don't do that much now :)

Awww I feel for anyone with allergies, especially to nuts or wheat!!

My DS was sensitive/allergic to red dye from a year old to about 5. We found out the hard way when he had his first red freezie. He got a rash on his cheeks really badly. We didn't know at the time it was from red dye. Then he had a red popsicle about two weeks later and he puffed up like a blowfish!!! Rushed him to the ER and they did every single allergy test they could think of. Because it was a freezie and a popsicle, they could narrow it down to red dye. So nothing red for him until he was five and then he ate a red freezie at a party and nothing happened. Called the DR and he said to try again with a red popsicle or some red vines or anything with red dye in it. We gave him a red popsicle and nothing happened!!!

They figured his system outgrew it.

At 8, he had a bad sinus infection and they gave him Zythromax (antibiotic) and thankfully we were at the dr's office because he was covered in hives in about two minutes. Head to toe, they were everywhere!!! Dr said "Ooops..think he's allergic to this one!"

We haven't tried him with it since. Thankfully he hardly ever gets sick (he's been sick three times in 14 years!) so we dont' have to worry much.

As for me, I am allergic to caffeine in certain drinks/pills. I can eat chocolate because there isn't much in it and it's processed differently. Can't take any pills with it (codeine for one!) and I can't drink caffeinated drinks. So no Coke, Pepsi, or Coffee (which I hate anyway!) or caffeinated teas. I can drink root beer and ginger ale and drink chai tea though. :)

Thankfully neither of my kids is allergic to anything - foods or environmental. However, I am deathly allergic to anything that comes from the ocean (fish, shellfish, nori, kelp, etc.) and to iodine/Betadine. That problem was solved when I became a vegetarian 33 years ago - LOL. I do get a bit of hay fever in the late summer with goldenrod and Queen Anne's lace blowing around but nothing that one loratadine a day doesn't take care of.
