AI?

I am interested to hear opinions regarding artificial intelligence. Ive been having a ton of fun playing with an AI image generator (courtesy of a prompt by GS member roxyrenders..thanks Roxy:))using my own photos as the base, the results are sometimes mindblowing, sometimes weird, sometimes terrible, but always lots of fun. However I am in two minds about the impact of AI in its wider capacity. I mean just in the art genre, being able to enter a few words such as beautiful soft lake scene with bridge and floating flowers in the style of Monet and have the application render a whole new image blows the mind, but what about intellectual and artistic property? Does it impinge on the rights of the original artist when AI uses an artists style as a base for generation? And the fact that AI can be prompted to write job applications, homework essays, creating videos of speeches that never happened and goodness only knows what else? AI is already in our lives in many ways we dont even think about and in many wonderful ways as well BUT how far can we go and how far should we go just because we can.

In the meantime I'm enjoying my playtime, creating different effects and images, then scrapping some of them. Here are just a few I have played with

As a creator, writer, and former actor, I think it's terrifying. I've heard it's a huge bone of contention in the Hollywood writors/actors unions. The studios want to pay a pittance for the Visage of an extra and be able to use it via AI/CG FOREVER! Truly despicable.

AI is here. It serves many purposes, many of them not with the best of motives. I believe we can say this about most popular inventions. However, it is out there and there's no way to put it back in the bottle.

I look at it this way. There will always be new inventions...designed for one thing but often used for selfish and often malicious purposes. Refusing to use it because of the bad acts of others is a slap to those who invented it. The bad people win.

So...enjoy your time experimenting with AI. If/when you use it for the general public (like posting a layout) mention the original creator and state your AI involvement. A Win/Win for the good people who invented it. AND a most delightful treat for us who see what you've come up with!

As a tool, AI can be very effective. But as a user of the tool, we need to be responsible and understand the wider effects. I'm currently planning a conference for my industry's communicators who are responsible for social content creation and newsletter articles. We're going to talk about legalities and making sure that using AI doesn't infringe on other's rights. We also use the AI neural filters in PhotoShop, which is pretty darn amazing.

AI is dangerous but very helpful tool that has been unleashed...we need to use it in a responsible manner. I agree with the actors/stars that his should be paid to those who use AI of their image EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY USE IT for what ever reason!

I think it might be cool to experiment on your OWN photos, interesting for crafting one of a kind pieces.

I am in agreement with what everyone here has said! It is possibly terrifying, but amazing when used wisely, and can be a lot of fun.
