Adding tag to folders?? Not Urgent.

Is tagging folders a thing??
I have done a google search and haven't really found a workable solution. I am running Windows 10.

My current organization system has each kit in its own folder.
I like to be able to see all my folder previews at a glance, so I don't really want subfolders (ie: Christmas, Halloween, etc). Instead, I would like to be able to add tags to each folder/kit. So when I search "Winter" for example, it will show folders that I have tagged "Winter" (not necessarily Christmas related though).

Any tips to accomplish this?
Thanks!

My husband the IT guy found this. :)
Thank you. I have found similar articles like this, but for some reason the "detail" window they speak of, doesn't work for me. And this is still only for files. I would like to tag FOLDERS. I might be asking for the impossible? LOL.
Thank you though.

Oh gotcha. When you said you wanted to search for previews I thought you meant you wanted to be able to pull up the jpg preview image files within the kit folder. On a Mac I tag my preview images so they pop up during searches, then I can right click and say "show in enclosing folder" which will open another folder with the kit contents. Does Windows have an option to do something like that?

I have all my previews named FOLDER, so I can see the the preview at a glance within the folder (without having to actually open it).

I did, however, this morning find "Tag Explorer" in the Microsoft App Store. I think it might work!!! Just need to find some time to play with it.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. :)

In order to best view my kits "at a glance" and not necessarily "tag them". I create an icon (I use ICOfx) and put it in the main kit folder.
To make them viewable like in this example, you have to go through the following steps:
>right click on the folder and choose properties
>customize
>change icon
>browse
>find your icon and click apply and ok
YES, it's time consuming, but I like being able to just "see" what I am looking for. This use to be an automatic thing in previous windows versions.
Here is what one of my 2020 subfolders looks like:

I already kinda do this…basically just naming the kit preview allows me to see the preview within the folder, without having to actually open it.
The Microsoft add on I found works, but I want to be able to cross reference a tag as well.
I don’t want to have to scan all my previews to find what I’m looking for.
I’m still looking for a better solution.

I used ACDsee forever ago, but it just takes forever to organize them. They used to have a free organizer version Once you do though, it's GREAT! You can tag EVERYTHING, then just open the program and search.

thank you. I will check it out.
Ya, I get the time consumption factor…I used the add on (mentioned above), thought it was great, but then realized I couldn’t search more than one tag. And I couldn’t figure out how to transport the tags to a new computer in the event I ever had a failure or needed a new laptop.
