a couple questions

Hey every one I am a Fairly new scrapper and i love to scrap my heart out creating LOs but my problem is i do not have alot of pictures (due to a pc crash and having to rebuild) not to mention actually loosing my income due to marriage (i am physically disabled and have slight memory loss issues) and unable to purchase much if anything.

so i guess my questions are

are LOs that have no picture appealing? I would love to just keep moving forward and motor on as well as post and share but are they really appealing?

and

have you ever been unable to make purchases of scraps/kits for your love of scrapping? and if so how did you work around it?...

thank you for taking the time to read and (possibly) reply,

From a confused scrapper

Mary-Lou

Welcome Mary-Lou! I am sorry to hear you lost many photos! I once had a server crash after many years of marriage (prior to children) and lost MANY photos and feel you pain there.

I feel that journaling can fill a page just as well as a photo can. A quick "search" on Pinterest for "Photoless Digital Scrapbook" comes up with many examples: HERE

As for the scrap kits, Ginger Scraps has our Welcome Wagon here if you have not already picked up the freebies from our designers, and we run the $1.00 kit deals, and deals on retiring kits and such often. If you are not signed up for the newsletter, I suggest you do that and there are a great number of deals monthly there! Also, during iDSD and DSD (International/Digital Scrapbooking Day) there are many 40%-50% off deals, I believe the next one is in May so keep your eyes open for that!

I sure hope that offers some encouragement and answers some questions.

Hi Mary-Lou, welcome to Gingerscraps. I'm sorry for what you're experiencing right now, but we're glad that you're here with us.

To answer your questions in my own opinion:

1. Yes, a photoless layout will always be appealing to me. Because I believe that it is the story you put on your layout that matters and how you feel about the out come of your layout. Like this layout here, it has no photo but she told her story through journaling, and that's cool for me.

This one looks appealing to me too, because of the minimalist aproach she used.

Also, this one is artistically created by the author. You can say that that might be what's going on in her head at the moment she made this beautiful layout, or that's how she's feeling at that time.

2. Yes, that happened to me but I make do of the kits I have at hand and I realize that I can make a couple of layouts using just one kit. But as what Michelle said, we have a Welcome Wagon from designers, you can snag free mini kits and templates that you could use to start a page.

I hope you're well today.

I was without photos for a while and I created quickpages for myself. As for the lack of kits...reuse reuse reuse. That's the beauty of digital kits! They can be used a million different ways and repeatedly! Watch the daily download and get on facebook for freebies. Designers are MORE than generous with their freebies and minikits. Also, watch for blog or facebook hops. This is a good way to get new supplies.

Google "recolor digital scrapbook elements" there are a bunch of free tutorials and videos out there. as far as no photos, the fact that you are doing and making do is the important thing.I enjoy pages that are only journaling and admire people who do them well. Journaling gives me insight into them as a person and the design has to make the statement instead of the picture(s). .

Thank you so much, yes that does help alot, I have been "nosing" through and i have found the challanges that i am able to participate in I hope that i may be able to fully get back into the swing of things one day.

thank you for the insite, I feel that i must "get busy" now

As the others have said, sometimes photo-free layouts work really well! Some of them can be incredibly powerful. I've also seen some great layouts where people have used journal cards instead of photos.

As for kits, as the others mentioned, there is the Welcome Wagon section of the forums here at GingerScraps. You can also obtain free mini-kits and templates with several of the monthly challenges here, and many designers also offer freebies on their Facebook fan pages or in their newsletters. Also, if you manage to complete ten challenges here at GingerScraps, you will earn a free kit! Or if you don't manage to complete ten within one month, you'll earn the free kit for whatever month it is when you manage to complete ten challenges.

During special events, Ginger often hosts Scavenger Hunts where you can win a coupon to buy a GingerBread Ladies kit for free!

Good luck! Hopefully you will figure out how you can enjoy scrapping within whatever limitations you have. If you have a camera right now, or a phone with a camera, just get out there and start taking photos of whatever catches your fancy! Even scrapping ordinary, everyday events can be fun!

ETA (Edit to Add): Also, there are some free stock photo sites out there, like Pixabay. You can use them to find photos, that are totally free to use (some may require acknowledging where they are from). I know some scrappers who use stock photos almost exclusively, as they don't like having personal photos available online.

Thank you so much Caylynn, I have found the challenges and I have actually completed them all... thank you for letting me know of Pixabay, it was a Serious help when one of my LOs just needed a photo.

I totally agree with others, lots of goodies in the Welcome Wagon. And the challenges really help get your mojo flowing!

I can't wait to see all your creations Mary!
