A Challenge to you Old-Timey Wimey Digi Scrappers!!!!!

Jen started a thread about our first layouts, and it got me looking through piles of back up CDs. I found the very first digi kit I ever bought, Ronna Penner's Just Peachy. Bummer for me - the kit does not have ANY flowers in it!! LOL I love making flower clusters. It's tough because I've also noticed how SMALL the kits used to be. Hardly any choices of elements either.

My challenge to you:

Find a kit from the first year you digi scrapped - post the original page (if you still have it), and then DO a page today with the same kit!!!

Post it here and link it up to the gallery so we can give them some love!

Anyone up for it??

I found a treasure trove of old CD's - most are just not anything I'd use anymore, but I thought it would be fun to see if time, talent, and style could make these old kits have some life in them after all.

I just finished mine and wow. It was like, "Hey - how about a... Nope. Don't have one. How about some...EEK - No. How about a variety of backgrounds? Nope." LOL

I'll post mine in a sec.

Here's mine!! It's linked to the gallery - and I'd love you to link yours as well so we can give these old timey wimey's some lovin' too!!

I used Ronna Penner's "Just Peachy" kit. I don't even remember where I bought the kit, and she's no longer designing. This was the first digi kit I ever bought.

Here's the page I made with it in 2005:

Here's today's page. I think I have learned the art of smaller elements and better drop shadows!!

That's a great challenge!!! Sadly, I do not have any of my firsts kits that I used to scrapbook as I started scrapping in 2005. I do have some older kits, but they are in storage. Might I be able to just find an older kit in my stash, even if it is just a year or so old?

Sure!!!!! I was surprised how many kits I still have on those CD's...

Sadly, after my pc crashed twice in 2013 I lost all my old kits.

Will it count if I use a kit that I have from early 2014 and a page from then??

I think the oldest kit I have is from late 2013..lol...I've only been scrapping digitally since late 2012. All the kits I had prior to 2013 were all freebies and really bad....I don't have those anymore.

Great challenge though Susan!!

Susan, your "updated" LO is gorgeous!

I would love to do this challenge...I "collected" supplies for years (probably since about 2008) before I actually started digi scrapping in 2012. I'll have to see how today goes. I have a bunch of CT LOs that I need to get done hehe

Yep, me too. I have 2 for Rachel and 1 for Jill - and here I am playing on the forums. Bad CT girl. :shh

So here's my very first LO. It was with a freebie kit from Shabby Princess. I searched around and it was still around! I grabbed it and realized that my first page was made with a quick page and my photos and title just plopped on. No wonder it looked so well balanced, LOL!

Like I said in the other thread, I actually do like this page. What I hate about it, and most of my earlier pages is that there is no journaling, not even a date! You will very rarely see a page of mine that doesn't have at least a little journaling. And if I do one, it's because there is an accompanying page somewhere that has the story already.

So here is my first page, and a page I made today with the same kit and journaling.

Love this idea! All of my old kits are on CD's... and the computer I have now has no CD drive LOL! I'll have to see what I can do. :)

I have that Shabby Princess kit too... hahaha!

SHABBY PRINCESS!!!! Oh, I loved her stuff! I used to count the days until her new freebies would come out! I have that one too! Cute!!!!

I do think that these old kits can stand the test of time!

I was a collector for a long time before I started making actual pages too. Love that there are some other Shabby Princess fans out there! She's going to wonder what the sudden interest in her old kits are if we go re download them, lol. I really appreciated all the free product that was out there to play with at that time though. I think it's great that she still has it available. I'm sure there are still beginner scrappers who love her stuff. I kind of want to get some more just to see what's in there :)
