Loads of CD's with pictures

I have at least 4 shoe boxes filled with Kodak CD picture discs with tons of family pictures on them. I'm afraid these pictures will be lost if I don't act fast. I know everyone knows it is hard to find computers with CD drives these days. No laptops come with them anymore.

What I was thinking of doing is buying a CD reader and transferring them to a hard drive. I do think this will be time consuming.

Any and all suggestions will be helpful. Never used cloud storage yet.

Thanks for the advice and help.

Wow, that is a serious amount of photo CD's! All my photo CD's have been transferred to my computer, but considering your amount, I'd definitely put them on an external hard drive and back them up to a service like Carbonite (I don't know if this is a cloud service or not, but it's what I use). It will definitely take a lot of time to manually transfer them, but unless you want to pay someone else to do it for you, you're probably stuck doing it yourself. I know of no other way of doing it, but maybe someone else will come along to this thread who knows more. :)

I copied all mine from CDs to a hard drive. If you set yourself a task of x number of cd's a day for a month, they will be done before you know it.

So you just reminded me that I have lots of CDs and I really should do something with them.

Lily Ann you asked original question in 2021. Did you ever transfer all your photos from CD's? how did it go?

I wish! I did buy a CD reader to start the project. We've been through a major remodel of our house and believe it or not, we are still unpacking! Hard to do when you have one full and one part-time job and husband works grave-yard shift.
