How do you choose what to scrap?

Just curious as to how you pick what to scrap? By photos you have or new kits you just got.
I just finished my Disney Album (8 years ago) and hundreds of pages...that was 95% of my scrapping focus for years...
NOW I feel like I don't know what to do..LOL.

I go by pictures- in order of when I shot/acquired them. When I work as a guest CT, I work by the colors/theme of the kit I'm using.

I know what you mean about scrapping albums. When I'm done with my granddaughter's first year, I don't know what I'm going to do, LOL. :)

Sometimes it is the challenges I want to take part that determines which photo or photos I use that day. I do Project Life so the photos of course determine that and I do that at the end of each month this year. Last year I did weekly pages but I found that too time consuming.

Depends on what I am scrapping - if its ct work then whatever goes with the kit/template. If its for a friend/family member it is whatever goes with the photos. I do find myself scrapping the same photos sometimes as well just to see how they look done differently. Then there is any challenges so I scrap to the challenge as well. I tend to have too many ideas though & struggle to simplify

I'm with Sam, I have too many ideas!

I go by kits mostly. I try to hit several different themes each month or else I get bored. I took Stacy Julian's Twelve class years ago where we did pages around these twelve topics each month. I still find myself scrapping that way a lot. I don't hit every topic every month, but it's fun to try. The topics are All About Me, People, Places, Things, Everyday Life, Family Stories, Holidays, Seasons, Rituals, Personalities, Fun, Inspiration. I try and do travel pages every month. One year I realized I had almost no LO's about my husband or my sister, so I made a page about each of them every month.

Right now I'm taking a photo organization class where we're working on 2020 + another year, so I'm doing a lot of pages from those years. Oh, and I also try to make 10 pages from the current month, sometimes Project Life, sometimes regular pages.

Did I mention too many ideas?

I guess I'm all over the place. Sometimes I chose pictures to do a challenge. Sometimes I want to use a certain kit and find pictures to fit it. Sometimes I want to scrap a certain picture... this takes the most time because than I need to search for the perfect kit to match.

I usually go by pictures I have. If I feel a bit lost I scrap the challenges for inspiration and to try something different. Although I must admit if I see a great kit in the store that sometimes is enough to get me scrapping more :)

This is EXACTLY how I scrap! Especially the part about searching for that one picture I know I have but what year was it?? I’ve been trying to tag my photos with keywords as I find them so they never get “lost” again. :)

In doing my ct pages, I go with the kit and then look for the right photo for it. When I can't find any other photos, I recycle, I use a photo I have alrady used, making it smaller or changing it into black and white or reverse. But when I'm doing my project life layouts which I religiously do so I could print them, the photos go first and then the kit (or journal cards in this case).

I make albums for my grandkids so I keep a list of photos by year and month that I need to still scrap for their books and update the list each month

Personally,
I "try" and scrapbook chronologically. It's easier for me to keep track of the layouts. Sometimes, I will spend quite a bit of time looking through my stash for the right kit. I typically place the photos first and then add everything. Most of the time, I like a lot of "stuff" on my layouts, so I tend to use templates to help that along as well. I do one scrapbook a year for us, and one for my mom (the other grands have passed on). So it's easier for me to do this!

I am so behind that I usually follow challenges and try to focus on current pics and then a recent event. I took a break for a few years on scrapping/designing and just got back into it recently. I have pics from as far back as 2005 that need scrapping! LOL :) I have millions of pics to scrap.

I typically go looking for photos that are suited to the kit I want to use at the moment. But I have plenty of vacations I haven't scrapped yet, and I really should go through those photos. Problem is, I forgot most of what happened on the trips. If the photos don't jog my memory, I have no idea what we did on any given day, lol. Fortunately I took tons of photos, but unfortunately, I'll have to narrow them down to even do multi photo pages!

I go with the flow, if its something for ct, I try & use something that fits in with what we need to promote. If it's for friends or family, the photos dictate my course of action, if it's for the challenges, I let the challenges guide me.

Inspiration is a funny thing, it comes & goes & sometimes I need a prod to get my brain going
