RQOTD-what can you not scrap without?

In order to make a page that screams " you" , what does a kit have to have in it? I have turned into a cluster girl, and for me there has to be leaves. I have a really hard time with kits that have half a dozen flowers but no leaves. Please designers leaves!!! Lol how about you? Is it splatters, or a certain pattern, or string, or does it matter?

Hmmmmm. I rarely if ever use buttons, journal cards, or glitter papers, so I don't need any of those.

Looking at what I wind up using - I need flowers, leaves, strings, ribbons, paint splats, patterned back ground papers, and templates (I am in LOVE with templates right now).

I love strings and stitches (but sometimes stitches are hard for me to incorporate) and I absolutely need foliage!!! I have some kind of leaf or branch or vine on every layout I do!!!

I really love using spatters and paint too.

Like Susan, I rarely use buttons (just don't like the look of them) or much glitter. I also very rarely use journal cards. I'm jealous though, of those who can do the PL layouts and make them look amazing. It's just not my style.

Yes, leaves! I think for every four flowers you have in a kit, you must have a leaf. (I just made that up in my head)

I cluster a lot with flowers, but I'm starting to feel like I rely too much on that. Does a flower really add to the story I'm trying to tell? Usually not, but I love them anyway. Also doilies and splatters.

Thinks I need in my kits

Buttons WITH threads.
Stitches
paint or splatters
curly string
alpha
leaves, especially if the kit has flowers

I love word art clusters. But I'd love them more if I had the option of having the everything on separate layers. That way I could change the word art if I want to use the kit off-theme.

Things I can live without

thick, heavy frames
cluster frames
buttons WITHOUT threads
flairs
crooked ribbons
big clips

I don't usually look at kits very detailed before purchase. I go with the general gut feeling and how much trouble I am feeling in NOT buying it :) What I really feel the lack of, however, when I go to scrap with the kit are a couple different types of frames, no scatter or paint, and (lately) word strips.

For me, I do like buttons but with stitches. I like them to be "attached" to my page. I need some type of fastener - could be staple, stitching, buttons - but something. I seem to always be looking for tags with a string. If there are flowers there must be some greenery/leaves. I DO NOT like kits that provide the same ribbon, flower, same element simply recolored!! Sure it makes the preview look like there is a lot in the kit, but when you get it, you find it difficult to work with. I love patterned papers but I also need solids and a solid white is a must. I also love templates to give me a base to work from. I'm sure there is more, but this is what I came up with off the top of my head.

I need my kit to have a matching alpha whether or not I use it does not matter I like having it there in case I want to. Also I really love Flowers, Leaves, and pretty much anything I can layer and cluster with. Also I need some sort of Staple!

It's interesting that so many want fasteners. I really don't give much thought to staples and buttons at all. Maybe it has to do with whether or not you've paper scrapped? I've always been digi so I've never had to attach anything.

I've always been digi - but I have always wanted my pages to look like they might be real and made with paper. I think that's why I have a hard time with things half cut off at the edges...a real page wouldn't have that! LOL

LOL! Okay...you asked! hehe
I do a lot of clustering, so definitely leaves...but not just one single leaf - mix it up! Maybe a single leaf, but also a branch of leaves & different types.
And, flowers - not just a bunch of the same recolored! Different types & shapes - not all round or all pointy (those are technical terms, y'all!)
I also want solid cardstock. It doesn't have to be "solid" but at least a non-patterned version of the main colors in the kit.
I like strings, and ribbons - again, variety - not just straight or just curly. Staples & buttons (with stitches) are a necessity.
Jen, I think you might be right - it might be that because I was a paper scrapper, I need to feel like things are "attatched." That's funny because I never thought about it that way.
Once last thing...I am especially drawn to little doodads that I can add into my clusters to make them look original!

You know, I keep coming back to this. One thing I really miss in kits? STITCHES. Long beautiful straight stitches. I'm tired of messy stitches. I want ones like Gina Cabrera used to make - like this:

I lost all my old kits from the DST days in a hard drive crash, so in order to get stitches, I gotta buy them again!

Okay... I was thinking something completely different with this... I was thinking... Yes, M&M's. I can't scrap without them near me!

I missed this thread...
LEAVES....any greenery and as stated more than 1 leaf.

* stitching is always good
*love paint
* include plain papers as well [well...I know I have a b'zillion plain papers, but if I do not wish to kit mix.....]
* inidividual elements not all recolored.
