Vanishing Gallery Credits

I'm taking a poll. How many of us have taken the time to carefully and properly include designer credits with the layouts we post in the Gallery, only to have the credits vanish into thin air somewhere between the review screen and the actual upload?

The reason I ask is I received a rather ...um... curt private message about missing credits for a layout I KNOW I entered credits for into the dialogue box. When I went to the Gallery, sure enough, the credits are missing. I've noticed this before and when I see it, I fix it. But really, we shouldn't have to check and recheck, should we?

Are you adding your credits on the first screen when you go to "upload photos"? They will disappear if you add them then. You wait until you have chosen the gallery - added your file and typed in title then upload/submit.
Then on the next screen you add your credits in the description box. You have to manually add the links to the store.
the other way is to not add anything in this step - but submit - go to what you just uploaded and edit it and then the description box has the "chain link" logo so you can more easily add the link to the products in the store.

I never add any layout info/credits until after the upload is complete. Then I edit and add the text. I have never had it stay if I add it during the upload process.

I know it can be quite frustrating when the credits disappear. Unfortunately the company we bought the gallery from went out of business a few years ago, so there is nothing we can do to fix issues as they come up, since they are no longer open there is no support for issues that come up. My option was to keep the current gallery (issues and all) or start over with a whole new gallery.

I weighed the pro's and con's and the biggest con was that all the layouts would be gone, if I decided to get a whole new gallery, all of us would have to start over re-building our galleries from scratch. That ultimately lead me to decided to keep the current gallery. If things get worse in the future I may be forced to make a change, but as of now, the only major issue is the credits disappearing if you input them on the first page.

I find that any "special characters" will for sure trigger the "disappearing" scenario, for example, I use {brackets} in a lot of my credits and when I use them I know they will not stick.

The suggestions above from Anne-Marie and Kristi are a great way to avoid the dreaded disappearance of your credits.

I have noticed that there are a lot of people who do not have credit links with their layouts I am glad your all are talking about this I know there are a few extra steps that it takes but I always want to make sure there is a link to the template or kit or whatever I have used from the store. Thanks Ginger for your explanation also so great to have a site owner that helps answer questions. Thank You for all that you do behind the scenes and your helpers to keep this site running.

What I have since I add so many layouts since I'm on the CT team. Doesn't mean I am an expert but a frequent uploader. LOL

This is a correlation/connection that I have noticed for a while now....

I've observed when I add credits in the first window, there is a little message in the lower right-hand window or sometimes appears in the box that the credits are in) that says "auto-save". When I do see that, I save into gallery, and the credits are there.

I've noticed the same thing in the buik upload window. I seems that if I don't see the "auto-save" flash up then the last one entered into the message box, is the one that isn't there/disappeared.

On my next bulk upload, I am going to try what Anne Marie said and see if that helps me.

This has happened to me as well. Now, after I have entered the my credits on the first window, I right click and copy what I have typed out. Then I paste it in the second window. This is an easy fix and so far has helped me.

Oh that is too bad about the gallery software going out of business. I feel this gallery software (despite some of the glitches) is the best one overall that I have encountered. I upload to a few other galleries for a CTs and the galleries there I feel aren't as easy to use as this one.
One thing I wonder if could be done here in this gallery to make it easier, if possible, is that all of the old folders be removed from the folders drop down box, such as past year's challenges, all of the past Scrappin' Survivor folders, etc.
I have no idea why but sometimes when I go to upload my upload default will bump to the previous year's challenges instead of this year. I try to pay attention to it and choose the right folder, but a couple of times I know I have uploaded to a previous years challenge folder since they have the same names.
It would make it a lot more straightforward to upload if only the current gallery folders where available.

The gallery often gets hungry and eats my credits:) I have now made a habit of entering them in the first window but making a copy of those details, then go ahead with the upload. Next I open the LO in the gallery and check to see if the credits have stuck, (sometimes they do), if not I then edit and paste the copy. They don't always stick even if you enter them in the second upload window I have found.

On a slightly different gallery topic, I love it when people also add the links to the store of the products they use. I confess to getting lazy and not always doing it but it is super when you love someone's LO and the kit they used then being able to just click on their link and go straight to the product in the store...probably not so super for my credit card though:(...also not viable for those who use multiple products in their LOs, I am mostly a one kit kid.

I'm glad to know it isn't just me! I've been meticulously adding credits and didn't know they all disappeared until someone said something.

One trick I've noticed is if you write credits on the first page, it will appear in HTML code on the second page and if the text stays the same in those HTML paragraph coding, it will all disappear on the final upload. If you remove the HTML paragraph code on the second page, it usually sticks. :)

The HTML paragraph coding looks like < p > credits < / p > but without the spaces.

I have had this happen many times I copy the credits and re-post them with the upload screen I get to make sure it don't disappear

I don't know if I'm one of the few people who has had good luck but in all the time I've been around (from 2016), only 4 times have my credits disappeared and in common I entered special characters (", &, ', etc.), so although the name of the product includes them, I don't write them, neither in the description nor in keywords.
