help with layer styles PSE 6

yes, me again! But I have a different issue today! This time, I loaded the styles and xml files and opened pse 6 and they are there! and they work! BUT....there is no picture of the style showing up in the effects palette (spelling?). So all I see is the name of the style. That's it. Where oh where do I put the png files for layer styles???????

I don't have PSE6, but I did find these instructions: (https://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33090)

To Install STYLES into PSE6:

1. Make sure PSE is closed.

2. Locate your style file. It should have the .asl file extension. Copy this file.

3. Paste your .asl file into the following directory:
C:\Documents & Setting\All Users|Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en-US\Photo Creations\Layer Styles

Vista Users: C:\Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US\Photo Creations\Layer Styles

4. Locate the .xml file included with your style. Copy this file.

5. Paste your .xml file into the following directory:
C:\Documents & Setting\All Users|Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en-US\Photo Creations Metadata\Layer Styles

Vista Users: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en-US\Photo Creations Metadata\Layer Styles

6. Start PSE.

7. You can now access your styles in the styles palette under SHOW ALL.

(If your new styles do not show up at this point, you can try the following. Go to the following directory, find the file MediaDatabase.bd3 then rename it MediaDatabaseOLD.bd3.
C: Documents & Setting\All Users|Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en-US
 
This is exactly what I was following, step by step. I have it printed out. They are there and working, I just don't see a picture for them. I have had this where I get no picture for an action, and end up with having to create an image myself, but never have I run into this for styles. I think I am stuck.
 
Have you rebooted? There is a way to launch PSE and force it to reload everything, let me see if I can find the instructions.
 
If you hold down "shift" while PSE is loading, it forces all your styles, etc to load again. Maybe it's just not seeing the files.
 
I have rebuilt the data base by hand 3 times.....and restarted. Have not turned off the computer though. I will try that.
 
Beth at one of the levels of pse, ( cant remember which one) the little pics don't show anymore. I will check my version when I put the computer on. On iPAD now. Being lazy - still in bed.

Hi there! no, it still does not show the picture of the style. I guess I can live with that. These are the genuine styles by jenn2 (jenn squared). Oh well. Thanks girls!
 
Ok, well, I think I figured it out. Going one by one through my styles, I think the issue is that the genuine styles - felt, acrylic, glitter, etc- bundly by Jenn squared (Jenn2) are not compatible with pse 6. That's a bummer cuz they are really awesome!
 
when I try to use them (i have the title but no picture of the styles) pse6 tells me they are uncompatible with my version of pse.
