What Are You Reading? ☀️ {SUMMER 2026} June, July & August

I decided instead of monthly threads, I'll be posting our Watching, Reading, and Crafting chats seasonally.

Our seasonal schedule is:
🌸 Spring: March, April, May
☀️ Summer: June, July, August
🍂 Fall: September, October, November
❄️ Winter: December, January, February

Looking forward to chatting with all of you throughout the season! ❤️

Hey book lovers! ☀️📚

Summer is officially here, and that means beach reads, poolside page-turners, vacation audiobooks, and maybe a few late nights spent saying, "Just one more chapter!"

I always enjoy hearing what everyone is reading because there are so many great books out there that I might never discover on my own.

So tell us...

What are you reading this summer?

Are you:
  • Lost in a great novel?
  • Listening to an audiobook while you craft, garden, or travel?
  • Working your way through a nonfiction book?
  • Revisiting an old favorite?
  • Filling up your summer reading list faster than you can read it?
Feel free to share:
  • What you're currently reading
  • Audiobooks you've been enjoying
  • Recent favorites you'd recommend
  • Hidden gems others should know about
  • Books you're hoping to start this summer
And if you're looking for your next great read, this is the perfect place to gather recommendations from fellow GingerScrappers!

Don't forget about the GingerScraps Book Club, too. It's a wonderful way to discover new books and chat with other readers in our community.

Now grab your favorite summer drink, find a comfy reading spot, and tell us what's currently on your nightstand, Kindle, or audiobook app! 📖🌴☀️

And if you're looking for even more everyday conversation and friendship, come join us here too: Everyday Chatting & Waffling {2026} Let’s get to know each other!

I am reading the Brother Athelstan series - a friar in the middle ages. The books are interesting, a little like Brother Cadfael. I think I still like Cadfael more, but I do have a certain fondness for Brother Athelstan.

My latest read was "John Candy: A life in Comedy". Just finished it, love all his movies and was sad for a lot of things he had to go through but he sure was a remarkable comedian! Another life cut short.

On my Kindle, I'm working on The Quitter's Club - 50% done. I'm liking it pretty well. I also bought and downloaded An Unsuitable Attachment by Barbara Pym, but won't start that till I'm done with The Quitter's Club.

On Audible, I'm listening to Emma by Jane Austen, mostly just when I'm going to bed. I don't have a membership there anymore, but I have several books still to listen to.

On Everand, I'm listening to All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

As soon as I finish one of these, I'll maybe start one of the GS book club picks. I'm taking a long road trip next week, so I'm guessing I'll make some progress then!

Right now I'm reading One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune, it is the follow up book to Every Summer After.
"Every Summer After is a bestselling debut novel by Carley Fortune about a second-chance romance between Persephone (Percy) Fraser and Sam Florek, set in Ontario's cottage country. Told in a "then/now" structure, the story flashes back over six summers of their deep friendship and first love, which ended in heartbreak, and follows Percy as she returns home for a funeral and must confront the past and their undeniable connection. It's a nostalgic, emotional story about love, loss, and forgiveness, perfect for fans of summer romance."

It was made into an Amazon Prime series and starting this month! It is an nice summer "beach read" romance, coming of age, light read (and a little steamy too)

@FormbyGirl I looked those up, looks interesting! I love a good mystery!

@Route66 He was such a great actor! He always cracked me up! I loved Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors we watched those so many times. I watched them again recently, as an adult and there were so many jokes that I totally did not get as a pre-teen, they just went right over your head. HAHA

@photocrazy Oh I hope you love it!! I could not put that one down!

@kelley I haven't read any of those! I know All The Light We Cannot See is beloved, it is on my TBR! I'm going to start The Violin Conspiracy (GS Book Club for June) as soon as I finish the book I'm currently reading.

I just love seeing all of these recommendations. I've actually taken a pause in my audiobooks as I've stumbled across a podcast I've been enjoying. But I'm nearing the end of what's already recorded so this list will help! :)

Thanks Ginger for pointing me over here.

Right now on my Kindle I'm reading Assistant to the Villian by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. It's a "Cozy Fantasy Romantic Comedy". I'm loving it so far.

I'm listening (when I remember) to Caught Up by Navessa Allen.

And paperback is Sacrifice by Adriana Locke.

I started a new reading challenge from The 52 Book Club - Beach Reads. The way it is set up should have me reading genres that aren't my typical romance go-tos.

Happy Reading everyone!!!

@Grace. Thank you so much! I'm having a good time. It's crazy - the trip was for my son to visit a friend, so I'm just chillin in my hotel room all week aside from occasionally venturing out to get food or see something. I realized once I got here that I have NEVER in my life been alone for 5 days! It's a very weird feeling, but not entirely unwelcome haha! Technically, I'm not alone completely - I met up with my son and his friend yesterday and went to a cat cafe that was amazing! :D

@StephanieH a reading challenge sounds like fun! I'll have to check out the 52 Book Club! I love being challenged to read out of my normal genre too.

I finished up the Quitter's Club, which I'm glad about. I contemplated quitting on the book, but decided to press on. It was ok I guess. I started An Unsuitable Attachment by Barbara Pym now, which so far I'm liking!

I also have the Good Reads app... you can set your own reading challenge each year and track which books you've read, and even the books you've started but didn't finish. They have an annual voting contest by genre, and I put a lot of those books on my "want to read" list.

@breoni I'm in goodreads too! actually I'm very active on Goodreads because it's a bit like facebook used to be ten years ago, when fb was fun, but without ads, and you can interact with many people who are reading the same books, actually among my friends there are some authors with whom I have even shared what inspires them to write books that I have read from them. It used to be possible to send private messages, but since Amazon bought it, that's no longer possible, however, you can still exchange opinions. I love that app <3

I am currently reading/listening to an audio book LaLucci by Susan Lucci herself. I loved her as "Erica Kane" in the beloved soap opera, All My Children. I love that she is narrating the book herself! So far so good, very interesting childhood and her take on what it was like being a soap star.
