Suggestions Needed

No suggestions, but good luck! I never got into designing kits myself as I am just so thrilled with all the designs my fave designers create that I have never felt like I needed to do this and always thought it was so much work that I wanted to leave it to those those are so good at it. Not to deter you, of course, if you have fun and enjoy it, I say....go for it. Check youtube and I'm sure google will give suggestions on courses to take.

If you use Adobe products, I would recommend going to Adobe.com and looking for tutorials. They are amazing! Also, you can check out the Gingerscraps blog - they have tutorials for a great number of things! Good luck and enjoy!!

Learn your program. Whichever one you use....to its fullest. For me, it is photoshop. W A Y back in the day... of early digi, there were no kits. One had to create EVERYTHING from scratch. Yep, I'm one of those old relics, yet I have zero interest in designing to sell, however I have created many products [papers, elements, actions, styles, brushes] from scratch.
Why?
In addition to: I had to [no kits] and I used to be a paper scrapper.
I asked a lot of questions, and ended up being a 'tester' for folks that wrote for Adobe products. Their tutorials for how to create:
A button,
A pacifier
A sunset
Stretched pixels
Clouds
boca effects
mirror imagery
reflections
3 D
textures etc...

and I beta tested for Adobe. [Guess they figured if I could do it , anyone could]...:hi

There should be many tutorials still out there is cyber land.

There used to be articles for how to: in Photoshop Elements magazine, but not sure that still exists.

And there are CU [commercial use digi items] that can be purchased and 'used' to make it yours from a template.

I also used to Quality check both CU products and PU.

Now I am old. I just scrap for me, [and family] and monkey around on a page as I want for me, hopefully without changing the kit too much.

I have been dabbling in designing since 2009. Tried to sell at a store one time but the store and forum ( Ivy Scraps ) closed down not long after I joined and that short time of being a paid designer helped me not want to pursue it further. It was taking away too much time from creating my own memory pages.
There should be lots of tutorials you can find. Creating your own papers is a good start because from there you can use the papers to create other things like... journal cards, brads, even flowers.

The one thing I found difficult was when I was suffering with a Trigger thumb I struggled with extracting which is something you need to be able to master if you want to truly create your own unique elements.

I cannot remember the site but some years ago there used to be a yearly Designer contest. I entered one year and made it to the last week but pulled out because I felt I was not ready to commit to being a paid designer.

Scraps N Pieces used to have a designer mentoring class. I don't know if they still sell that, but you might contact Lori. :)

I believe Digidesignresort has classes called Safari Lounde you can take to help you learn to be a designer. If you searched it you could probably get some info on how to get signed up, cost etc.
