Suggestions for soy sauce substitutions?

Does anyone have any suggestions for soy sauce substitutions?

My daughter gets violently ill with anything containing caramel, caramel colouring. Soy sauce generally has it on its list of ingredients. So many recipes want it as an ingredient.

If you are okay with making your own substitute, here is a recipe that I give to clients who are allergic to soy:

I would use beef broth as opposed to beef bouillon, but that's because bouillon tends to be very salty, whereas you can buy reduced sodium or no salt added beef broth if you don't have any that is homemade.

Some people also just use balsamic vinegar as a substitute, but whether that works really depends on the recipe or what is being flavoured with the soy sauce.

Bragg's Liquid Aminos or Tamari - I checked both of mine in the cupboard and neither have any colorings added to them :)
