PSE 2024 HELP!!

Hello Friends!

I'm at my wits end with these computers! My old trusty finally gave it up last NOVEMBER, and I have been trying since January to figure out what I'm not doing and/or doing wrong with this (not so new anymore) system. I changed from PSE 13, which I was comfortable with and could do what I needed to with it. When I set the new one up, I subscribed to PSE 2024. I can NOT for the life of me figure out why my photos and masks won't merge on my workspace. I have spent countless hours with Adobe and PSE tutorials looking for answers. I'm having withdrawals not being able to do my pages anymore, not to mention all the photos are backing up again when I almost had them under control before the meltdown of 2024! I was hoping one of you lovelies would maybe have a suggestion to get me going again!
It seems to me like a simple, basic function of PSE, so I'm hoping it's a "me" problem, and it's something easy and idiotic that I'm not doing, and someone can set me straight!
It looks to me like they are merged on the layers panel, but not in the workspace. I can't do anything with it but resize the photo.
Thank you!
With Love, Anna

Anna, I do not use PSE ( I use an older version of Photoshop and started with PSE) but I can see your photo needs to be larger for the mask you are clipping it to as the mask looks square shaped.
Try unlinking the layers to see if that helps. There should be no need for you to have them all linked as you have.

Thank you for the insight, Anne-Marie! I think I've found a work around by merging them from the layers panel instead of how I've always done it from the workspace. That was my problem...getting the photo to merge with the mask so I could resize it.
Are you talking about the chain link in the layer panel about all my layers being linked? If so, I don't think they are all linked over there. I tried and the little chain link will turn yellow when they are actually linked together. I am definitely going to play with it more today while I'm off for a few days. This subscription is really expensive for me not to be able to use it, and I was getting pretty frustrated. I wish they wouldn't change the way basic things work with the upgrades! Thank you for taking the time to give me some ideas! I'm looking forward to getting back to work on some layouts!

@gadawg83 You are correct, you need to work with the layers panel. You click on the layer you want to work with. You move things around in the workspace with the move tool, though. In the layers is where you clip to a mask, add shadow styles and other styles, you move the layers up and down when needed. Copy a layer etc.

Here is a video that looks like it might be helpful for you:

Ann also I don't understand why all the layers are linked I would unlink them.

I think it is only on her screen shot they look like they are linked as she mentioned in her reply to me that they show up a different colour when linked.
Found this image on a web search about linking layers for PSE 2024
