Well, my poor little point & shoot's LCD has a crack in it... again :( I have had to replace so many of them because of the LCD cracking. I'm not even sure how it happened this time.
Anyway, I'm not at the point where I want to lug around a DSLR, so I'm back in the market for another point & shoot. I like small cameras because I'm a bit clumsy (hehe maybe that's why so many of my cameras have broken?)
Do you have a point & shoot you would recommend? Or are you like most people & just use your smart phone now? PS...I don't have a smart phone (see "clumsy" reference above).
 
I have the Nikon CoolPix AW 100. It takes amazing photos and it waterproof (we used it on vacation for pictures of swimming with the sea turtles). This link is for the AW110 - they are the same, I think the 110 has a blue tooth option and maybe a bit more resolution. My mom has a smaller CoolPix and she likes how easy it is to use.

I have a point and shoot, and love it! I got it last Christmas, but I get the same kind everytime. I LOVE Sony CyberShot. It's the DSC-HX9V. Has 16x zoom and a nice big 3' LCD. It can handle a bunch! I'm *clumsy*, too! I even dropped my "baby" from a Stagecoach...LOL! It has a crack on the side, but still works! It's sorta okay in the dark, but I have to edit it a bunch. I've had Sony's for the past 3 cameras. The biggest downfall is the battery. It only uses Sony! And it's not cheap! LOL!
 
I bought a nice Canon PowerShot D20 (underwater camera) before we went to Hawaii. It's a great camera ...but I always have my iPhone on me and it takes terrific pictures so having my PnS and my phone is one item too many. And as for clumsy, I've dropped my phone soooo many times but it's in an OtterBox case and it takes the abuse not my phone.
 
I have a fuji that's waterproof... I really want to update it to the nikon one. I have a dslr but it really isn't ideal for the beach and stuff for me. How does it do with indoor pics? The fuji really bites the dust inside :(

I think it takes great indoor pictures. As with any P&S, if the lighting is real low, you have to mess with the settings some...but I've taken a picture of my puppy in almost complete darkness (using the night setting) and it turned out decent.
 
I've always had Canons, I don't consider myself brand-loyal, but I guess I tend to gravitate towards the familiar. I've read that point & shoot cameras are going the way of the dinosaurs because smart phone cameras are getting so much better. Hmmm... looks like I need to do a lot more research!
 
I have a Canon Powershot SX260 and I love it! Got it new last year for Christmas. However, since getting my Galaxy S4 (smartphone) I've been using that alone twice as much for photos, HA!
 
lol I have the s3 and it takes better pics than my point and shoot. I quit using it unless I go to the beach or pool.

I have a Canon Powershot SX260 too- LOVE it!! My husband bought it for me right before we went to Walt Disney World and my pictures came out great!! I could use another battery though if you are planning on using it for an all day event. I was able to capture some amazing shots at Sea World of the whale and dolphin shows that I never could get with my older point and shoot. It zoomed in well and has lots of settings-many I have yet to figure out how to use, but it has lots of options. I think we paid $230.
 
A couple people mentioned cellphones, and while I agree that the quality of them is getting better, I doubt that P&S's will be going anywhere. People will always want something small and compact. P&S batteries last a LOT longer than a cellphone. You can switch out easily, a new battery and memory card if you drain or fill up the last one.
Also, P&S, in the long run, are A LOT cheaper. Even if you get a free-upgrade on your cellphone, if you break it, you're out upwards of $600 if you have to replace out of contract. With a P&S, max I've seen is about $200-300, and even then, you can find them REALLY cheap on Ebay/Amazon, etc.
But that's just my opinion. I've been mulling over the cellphone suggestion for awhile, hehe.
 
You are right about that. depending on how often I use my DSLR I maybe charge it once a month and my Fuji ever couple months... my cell phone every other day! When I bought my 2nd p&s I spent about $500 and I kicked myself for it. It was a great one, was a beginner for dslr's but still had that p&s ability but after spending a little bit more a few years later for the DSLR I thought I got ripped off some the 1st time lol.

You're lucky you only have to charge every other day! I have to charge my twice a day, if I'm lucky!!
 
My 'purse camera' is a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX9V. (the current version is DSC-HX50V and runs retail about $450). I bought it in 2011 when we were going to Paris, and I didn't want to lug around my huge (and expensive!) DSLR. So I picked this one up for about $400 at the time. I went with what I felt was the best quality P&S I could find at that time. I have been thrilled with it ever since! Its the only camera I usually have with me when I travel now. Great Zoom, nice photos, the ability to go manual if I want... all in an itty bitty package!
Don't get me wrong... I wouldn't dream of giving up my DSLR! I need it for portraits and designing, but for day to day photos... and almost all vacation/trips... my little Sony rocks!

"Purse camera" is a good term! That's exactly what I need - something to take to Disneyland and assorted other trips with me. Thanks Paula!
