Paper vs Digi

So, my daughter is getting married in less than 2 weeks. She's packing to move into their new apartment (preparing it to be ready for him to move in after the honeymoon) and I was going through all the "paper" scrapbooks I had made for her pre-digi. Her books stop in 1999 when my older son was born (and then next son in 2001).

Now I feel SO behind! I *knew* I was behind before, but looking through them was really a splash of reality.

I do have to say, though, that I am SO glad that I'm doing digi now. There are a lot of photos in her scrapbooks that are not in mine just because I didn't get double prints, or had been given the photos and never scanned/copied them. I also noticed that some of the adhesives show through papers which REALLY ticks me off because I used a (not to be named) company that specifically made scrapbook supplies that were supposed to be archival.

Well...here's to catching up! :)

Mhhh.. I never did paper scrapping but when I see how much stuff I have to use digitally - OMG... I would need a separate house for my scrapping supplies :D

I had a "craft room" in the basement when I paper scrapped. I did work for a few book companies (Die Cuts with A View, Joanns, etc) and had a HUUUGE stash. I packed it all up when we moved from that home and never opened it again. It moved with us to another house and stayed in the boxes then too. Then in 2013 when we decided to list that house and move to the one we live in now, I dragged it all out and had a huge garage sale. I sold all of my paper scrapping stuff for a LOT of money. I packaged them into "kits" and sold each kit for between 20 and 35 dollars (some were smaller) and people were actually arguing over them.

I made so much money from that, I was able to get some great things for our new place that we otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford. :)

I hear you Tammy! I had enough paper scrap supplies to have a store here! Even after selling many of the albums from a prominent company that is no longer in business... along with some of their papers, stickers etc...I still have much.
As for the paper albums, just treasure the photos and consider it a work out to lift them and move them.

Don't worry about catching up from where you were till now.

Scrap in the moment!

Then, as you go back and catch up consider it 'heritage' <wink>

And it is ok, to have a mixed album...some paper scrap pages and some digi. I did that for our Alaska cruise in 2007. Aboard ship they sold a wonderful album with paper supplies [I bought it all] [as I received a discount on the ships photos I purchased -but I took over 2500 digi pics and was not printing each one. The combo looks great and it helped to use up the paper supplies.

Get a year done, O R get an event done {DD's wedding} and move to the next.

You'll be fine.
m
ps- I organized some stickers I still have over the weekend, I think I will use on cards.

:( Sorry to hear about the adhesive problem, that'd be frustrating! I actually had to dig out my paper supplies (that I have left, I got rid of most 8 years ago or so now when I went digital!) My son needed to make a scrapbook for a project for school (it about killed me I would have loved to do it my own way, and digitally, but it was his project!)

My grandma and Mom always paper scrapped pages and books for us when we were kids. I'm not that patient. And I'm the kind of person who will make an entire page and decide I hate it, so digi is the only way to go for me! I can trash a whole page and not feel bad about it at all!! :D
I do still buy papers and things when I get a good deal on them because we have both a Circuit & Silhouette machine here that I use often for craft shows I do with my mom & aunt, and I use them for things for our Church all the time.

Oh my gosh - I am mad about my adhesive too! As in archival, made to last, made specifically for scrapping with paper, and cost lots $$$ adhesive that isn't sticking anymore! Yes - I have papers and photos falling off of one another! This is from scrapbooks that I made in 2007-2008! They aren't even 10 years old! It makes me mad!!!!

I'm just re-doing those pages that are falling apart in digital format instead. There is no way I am going to buy more adhesive that won't hold up! It annoys me to have to redo pages though. :P

I paper scrapped too. The part that I find difficult is that I don't scrap as fast as I did with paper, so I am not as caught up. However, I am so thankful not to have a big mess when I do scrap. Plus, I scrap at my downtimes at work, so that is a big bonus for me.
Colleen... I can't imagine having to re-scrap pages. I can't get what I need to done now.

Sorry your guys tape didn't stick. That totally sucks!

I agree with everyone else in the fact that digi is so much cleaner! I have only been at the digi for 2 years now. It is so much EASIER (IMO) because:

No mess
Don't have to lug out containers and wheeled carts, paper carts etc to be able to scrap. Used to take me almost two hours to pack for a crop. lol
Don't like it, delete it!
You can use kits over and over without spending the extra money! (I used to hate buying paper at 1.00 sheet for bazzill and then have to use it)
Don't have the right colour? Change it?
Don't have to buy six flowers...just one and use it over again!
Ease of use...I scrap anywhere I go. Even in the hotel!

It's so much fun!!!

Suzanne, I find it interesting that you don't scrap as quick doing digital. I scrap so much quicker and get much more done doing digital! When my daughter was first born, it would take me forever to finish one page! Once I switched to digital, I was banging out the pages! :) lol I'm still soooo far behind though. I take way too many photos. ;) lol

I am with you on all those points! ;) It's so much easier to journal too - spell check is awesome! :)

Oh I scrap so much faster in digital!! I can do two layouts in an hour most days. :) It took me FOREVER to do paper layouts because I had to move this, move that, this didn't work there, place the alpha and then glue it down!! Ugh...

Another reason to add to my list up above! :) ;)

One thing I esp like about digi vs paper is how my albums line up nice and neat in my bookcase. And I show them off about 1000x more than I did the paper ones cause if an album is damaged or lost, I can order a replacement easily (maybe not cheaply tho, cause I love a good coupon.)

..........and with digi... We stay in touch and see our families thru good times and bad, and share many emotions via the LOs.

I tried to sell my paper/stickers at garage sales for the past two summers. I think I must be the only scrapper within a 20 mile radius! No one really touched it! Packing it into kits is a good idea. I did have "packs" of items, but still no takers. I am keeping a lot of my tools and some basics as we use them for my daughter's school projects but I really wish digital had been around when I started scrapping! It would have made life so much easier! My friend owned a scrapbook store and I worked there for quite a while for product! So, I probably could have opened a small store myself when I stopped working there...LOL!

Do you have Kijiji or Craigslist in your area, or even a FB buy and sell page for your town? You can package them there and sell them. My friend did and she sold out within two hours of posting them. :)

I'm with you guys on all these points, I double heart-heart love digi!! I slightly dabbled in it before when I was making cards for classes, unique greetings, etc.. but I can clearly remember when I started. It was during Gingerscraps "Christmas in July" in 2012. I've been hooked since! If my digi goodies would translate into tangible items, I would need another house to store everything, haha!

I still have loads of actual SB items. I did what Trace did and make them into kits. I haven't had a chance to sell again, but I would really like to! Off to find out places....

I do have Craigslist...haven't heard of Kijiji?? Also, I've used the Offer Up app on my phone - it's like Craigslist but all done thru the app. I should package things more in kits and try that!! =) Maybe I would have better luck that way.

Let us know how it works Lisa. I'm not even sure how / what to package as a kit.
ive thought of creating books like quick pages then the person would just need to add photos. Not even sure how many folks print out 4x6 like I used to.
