paper distorted when uploaded

I am using my memories software. I do 8 1/2 by x 11 pages. For this particular page the paper really ended up being distorted. I brought in the paper as 12 x 12 and stretched, and squeezed it to fit the 8 1/2 x 11 page. looked fine on my monitor but when uploaded to gallery it was really distorted. Should I have just cropped the paper to 8 1/2 x 11? I tried doing that, and it was better (2nd layout) but still not what it should be.

Debra, it would have been you stretching the paper to fit that caused this distortion. Depending on the way the paper was designed in the first place it may not have been saved at a good resolution to enable resizing.

Maybe you need to use a different paper to go with this adorable photo. Personally an off white paper would make the photo stand out more.

When I use a large paper on a smaller one, I use the crop tool around the whole page of the smaller page if that makes sense. There is no distortion of the paper this way.

Thanks Anne-Marie,
I just tried another one with the same paper and double clicked to get it on layout, and kept it the same exact size, did not do any squeezing or stretching. It would have been 'brought in' as an 8" x 8" so wondering if it then has to do with resizing like you mentioned; if it was designed for 12" x 12"

Would it at all have to do with when I size complete layout from large to web/email and it becomes 140 kb size? would that be where it is 'being squished and distorted' many a time i feel my layouts when they are uploaded onto gallery that they are not clear.

When you go to resize your layout for the web what options are you given?

If you can make it larger that 140kb.... the best is 250kb

If possible you should have your longest side to be 600 pixels and the resolution to be 72 dpi.

I am in my memories suite. I export it as a jpg to my pictures folder. When I do this I have 4 options: large 3300 x 2550 (pixels), Medium 2200 x 1700 pixels, small 1100 x 850 pixels, and Web/email 550 x 425 pixels.
I Choose the web/email.
Next choice is Image Compression (quality level) they 'recommend 80-100%' I have always chosen 100%. once it is exported as a picture it is the 550 x 425 pixels this particular image was 140 kb (others range from 130 to 300 kb) I have never been able to come up with why the different sizes....i always figured it was by how many elements and such I had on.
if I do 12 x 12 pages the size is 600 x 600

Debra.... you could use that size if the resolution is less than the stated 450kb in the gallery requirements. ( that used to be smaller which is why I make mine just under 250kb)
It should be the resolution that determines whether it can upload to the gallery.

I just made this page of mine with the width of 1100 pixels and the resolution 72 DPI when I saved it I saved at just under 450kb and it has uploaded fine. So I suggest you try the "small" option and then the compression 80% - save it to your computer and check to see what size it is. If it is under 450kb you should be good to use it.
