Organization Question

This is a really dumb question, but......I decided to spend some time today organizing my treasures :) I use a renaming utility whenever I get new things, it just makes it easier the way I organize and also helps me with credits and designers. In this months collab an element set andpaper set have GE and for the life of me I can't figure out what it stands for.:(

Which collab are you talking about - the Monthly Mix? I'll investigate for you - are you saying the designers initials are GE or what is GE?

It's in Smitten. Elements and some papers. I thought it was the designer's initials, but don't see one in the list. Maybe designer store initials. Here's an example: GS_Smitten_GE_chalk_tag_1 I'm sorry to bother you with this.

Jeanne, I go through and individually rename sometimes - I like things ordered a certain way. What do you rename your files to? How does the renaming utility work?

I use a renaming utility when a designer does not put their name first or it doesn't include the kit name in the titling. I prefer designername_kitname_itemname

I use Bulk Utility Rename. It is super easy

You see that I use the "replace" section and told it to replace everything that says "NTMY" with "Kellybell_NiceToMeetYou". Then I just highlight everything I want changed to that and hit replace

That's so interesting, Meagan! I've never heard of this...I just sit and change the names of things manually :DI'll have to look into it...in my spare time!

Once you try this Tammy, you will never go back! I used to do it like that. This makes it so easy! Free to download, easy to use and navigate. It is a win-win!

I think it takes me 45 seconds to rename everything in a folder and you add, delete, replace, etc. To set up, it took only moments to download and then run.

I do it exactly the same way :36_1_11:

Never heard of that before Meagan!! So can you rename just the first part of the files? I might have to look in to this!

Trina, you can rename everything, right up to the file extension. I just renamed some treasures I picked up Sunday night. I put in designer's full name_kit name_papers, etc. When I download new things I rename it's destination folder that way. Then I just copy that, go into Bulk Rename Utility, paste it into the replace with spot, copy your naming convention into the replace spot, select my files, press the button & voila, they are all renamed. You can add prefixes or suffixes to a file name, you can pick a certain location in a name to add something, there are tons of possibilities. Another slick little program I use is iConvert Icons. I drop in a preview file of a kit, it converts it to an icon, and then I use that as the icon for my main file. That way I can just open my file system and see what's in a folder with a quick glance. At the time I got it you could use it free online, but only one icon at a time. I think I paid $5 for the program on my computer where I can bulk convert icons. Sorry, didn't mean to go on and on.........

LOL! No worries!! Interesting, will definitely have to check it out. I use windows, so I always copy the preview for the kit or template set and rename the copy as "folder" and that is what shows up as the preview when all the folders are shown. Pretty much like what you use icons for in Mac. :D

Sounds like it might be a new designer who might sell at the store - but waiting to hear for sure! :)

Talk about LOL, I use Windows and I've been renaming all of those little buggers for years! Who knew :D

Yes it is a previous designer that may come back to designing, but hasn't decided for sure yet :)
Sorry for the confusion!

LOL - Jeanne! I know the feeling - I've recently discovered a few things and I'm like DUH - wish I would have known that 10 years ago! haha!!
