[No title]

I hate hate hate holiday themed kits a month before the holiday rolls around. I scrap AFTER the holidays pass because that's when I have the photos to use. So I'd much prefer my Christmas kits to come in January. It drives me bonkers to only see "fall" kits during September -November. What about the 90% of the world that doesn't see the change of seasons at the same time that North America sees it? Or January kits with snow? There are a lot of places that don't get snow. I was so relieved to see that a few designers took a leap and did not make Halloween themed kits for the buffet this month. THANK YOU!

I do love flowers, everywhere, always. I don't care much for greenery but I do tend to throw some in. I don't really like photographed images that have been "cut out" as elements, especially flowers, they just don't look real to me. I like my pages to look like if I had used real items to scrap them with. I want people to touch my pages and wonder if it's 3-dimensional. That's how I know if I have done a good job or not.

I don't care for little paper doll type of figures. I never use them, they are a waste. My kids are not tiny anymore so they don't appeal to me at all.

I am the same about cutesy paper dolls and cartoon character kits. It really bothers me. Especially blatent copies of licensed characters. (but that's a whole other conversation)

I don't like loud or difficult to use patterns either. (just discovered that) I have a hard time using them.

I agree with you on the holiday stuff and bringing them out AFTER the holidays.. I think it would be beneficial to have the Christmas kits in January and the New Year's kits the week AFTER New Years. Makes total sense and I'm with you on that!!!

I see what you're saying about the holiday kits for scrapping the photos, but some of us make our own cards, as well as the hybrid projects that make the holidays more fun. People like to get started on these in advance, and for the designers, if it were me, I would think about the sales, and the need to get the kit out there and visible before the holidays, since there is so much to choose from. If they wait too long, they could lose the sale to another designer...Just my POV of course, but thankfully there are many different themes, styles, versatility, colors, and subjects to make us all happy, lol. It's amazing how different our likes and dislikes can be isn't it!

Deanna, I delete the Al in one alpha pages as they almost always are a larger file size.

Lots of good points of view here...all are valid. It's good there is such diversity so that everyone can find something when they need it. I know I have enough stash to not need to DL anything....til the end of time and even then won't use all of what I have...[LOL at me]
However, I LOVE new stuff and will continue to buy and DL!!:36_1_33:

What I don't like in kits:

1. Recolored items that make kits seem larger than they actually are. This also applies to providing duplicates of every single ellie, one with and one without a shadow. The same goes for papers ... no recolored papers, please.

2. I don't like kits without flowers and greenery, and if the kit has flowers, it should definitely have greenery. I gotta have greenery. I'm totally surrounded by trees, bushes, and vines where I live, plus I'm a Nature Girl and an Earth Mother, too.
hehe

3. I used to dislike bows, ribbons, string, twine, etc., as they never seemed to "drape" correctly on my LOs. I would then spend lots of time I didn't have trying to tweak them to look the way I wanted them to look. Thank goodness for Photoshop Warp! As with clustering (which I used to dislike, too), I'm slowly getting more comfortable with these elements. However, I still dread challenges that require clustering with these items.

3. I also prefer greenery and flowers that look natural. I don't want any of those weird flowers and bows that seem to defy gravity and logic taking up space on my hard drive! On the other hand, flowers and leaves colored to fit a holiday, season, or theme are okay by me. I like a little ... a lot! ... of strangeness in my life, and I especially LOVE the unexpected!

4. Which brings me to kits that are BORING! I really, really dislike kits full of the same old CU items that everyone else has purchased, and I completely avoid designers who turn out formula kits by the dozen. Quality above quantity!

5. Although I am unhappy when I get a template that doesn't have a TIF file, I've learned how to convert PSDs to TIFs. The same is true when I download a template with a TIF file that wasn't created correctly, making it many times the size of the PSD file. Arggh! It's such a nuisance to have to delete a bad TIF file and make a new one because someone hasn't taken the time to learn how to do this properly.

At this point, I had better quit while I'm ahead. I have a lot of pet peeves about how files and zipfiles are named, but that isn't relevant to this topic, which is about the content of kits rather than their naming, right? Has this been discussed elsewhere? If so, I'd like to weigh in with a list of recommendations and why I feel they are important (from the standpoint of an editor and a librarian).

:blush

Respectfully submitted,

Or snow: some years we have a lot of snow here, last year we had NO snow. But I love winter and I love winter kits. In this time I often do extractions to live in a visual snowworld ;)

I know what you mean, Melly, by "no snow" sometimes. We went to Deutschland for Weinachten one year, and there was NO SNOW except for a few sprinkles that fell when we went to the Vuppertal zoo, and also in the higher regions when we went south to Constanz to pick our hosts' son up from his university. On the way, we had a wonderful time in Rothenburg, where we stayed overnight, but again no snow!

My mother was born and raised in Germany, and she told us many stories about her childhood and how beautiful everything was in Germany during the winter, especially at Christmastime. In the weeks before Christmas Eve, she wasn't allowed into her parents' formal parlor, not even to take a quick peek. Then, on Christmas Eve, after going to church first, all was revealed! The beautiful Tannenbaum with real candles burning, presents under the tree, lots of Marzipan, Schokolade, Kuchen, and other goodies ... I wanted to be a part of all that so much!
