Can we talk about giving credit?

How do you all give credit when scrapping your pages? I usually stick to a kit but since I have not been doing any CT work its been fun adding extras I've pulled from other kits. Probably about 90% is from a specific kit... do you credit the other 5-10%? Could be just a paint splatter, extra banner, staple - not something that changes the entire layout or anything etc. Again this is NOT for CT work... I get with CTng you have to stick with what is in a specific kit.

I credit everything, regardless if it's for ct-duties or just personal scrapping. Now linking is a different thing. I usually TRY to link whether it's ct or not, but sometimes, if I can't find that designer because they store hopped, retired, etc, I don't bother looking for them.

Why do I do it, even if it is just a paint splatter or something minimal? If I look at a layout, I want to know where/who created the kit, element, paper, alpha, etc so I know where I can buy it myself. So when I use something I'll generally put the credits such as

template by . . .
kit by . .
kit name by . . . (greenery)
kit name by . . . (purple flower)
alpha/kit name by . . . (titlework)

Just so that it's broken down and people can know what I've used from what kit.
I also have been VERY guilty of creating elements/alphas from my own designing knowledge and don't credit that I've made that item to coordinate with the kit. It's just something that I never really thought about doing until your post :shh
But for the most part, I mainly stick to one-two kits by the same designer because I'm a lazy scrapper :D

I am the same way. No matter what I credit each designer. I used to get SUPER detailed and put "staple" by, "journal card" by if I had to pull from other designers but now I just list all items as they are sold (kits, packs, templates, etc.) and by which designer. I make a text layer on EVERY layout and list my products as I scrap and I even list my fonts used. I leave it as the top layer and just turn it off until needed. Then when I post I can just copy/paste. It is soooo nice to have that info for myself even because I can go back and see what I used if I need to find something used for some other project AND when I had a huge EHD crash and lost all my jpgs and layered files I quickly took screen shots of my gallery of the thumbnail and credits so I could remake those layouts. That was a lifesaver!

I rely on others to list what they've used because I can't tell you how many times I have LOVED a layout in the gallery and then went searching for those products used to purchase myself! It may seem like a headache to list all products used, but it may just save yourself down the line if you lose your layouts and really once you get in the habit, it doesn't really much time. =)

I do the same for linking....if it is for a CT layout it is expected, but then again I can copy/paste so it makes that pretty fast too.

I agree, to credit them all is the right thing to do.

It can get a bit long if using a number of items but this is so true, to come across a fab layout, run over to give a check on something and not see it.

So yes, I feel it's worth the time :). Besides, after a while it becomes a good habit!

I credit.
I like letting the world know I have great taste in the products I use.

According to other threads I've seen elsewhere...there is a 'law' per se on credits, but dang...my opinion is just be nice show
the world the talent you found.

I am HORRIBLE at credits!!!!! NOT that I don't want to give credits, but I have not figured out an easy way to do it. I throw things from ACDsee in and out and in and out, I change things so often it takes 4ever to type everthing. I need to get in the habit of loading from the bin, cuz that helps, but still an extra step. Sometimes I just give up and use one kit or don't even use anything other then paper and blend a lot of photos and make my own strokes and things. Once someone on a sight showed me how to link and it was great, but then I didn't use it and forgot how to do it, but ya know I think she showed me how to link a page to a forum so that isn't the credit thing. LOL it was still great:)

I am a nitpicky crediter - but here's the rub: I list them all in excruciating detail and hit submit. When I go back to look at my layout, it's GONE!! There's only a few lines and the rest get scrubbed. I'm getting really frustrated having to go back, look at my layout and go through my kits to rewrite the entire thing again.

I always try to credit EVERYTHING...even the fonts I used. Not only does it give the designer the proper credit they deserve, but it also helps other scrappers when they look at your page and see something they like. If you credit properly, they can find the stuff to purchase themselves or a new font to add to their stash.

This frustrated me too so I type my credits in Notepad so if there is a posting snafu I can just copy/paste them.

Speaking of crediting things, what about scraplifts? I've done both, credit them, and not credit them. But I always feel wrong when I don't credit them. I don't quite know what to do if I'm another site, though, because I don't think you are supposed to say "username" from "another scrap forum"

I only ever use a kit or collection from one designer and a template from that same designer or a different one. Since most of my layouts that I post are for CT purposes, I typically also try to make sure that they are from the same store if possible

I credit everything. If I do a scraplift, I credit the layout I am lifting...even if it is to just mention the name of the layout and the artist.

I have the same problem in the gallery...not posting all of my information...but I have found that if I wait until the 2nd screen comes up to enter it, I don't have a problem.

I have my trusty notebook handy on my desk and when I use more than one kit, I always write down the name of the kit and the designers name. That way, I have an easy reference in which to find the link and I don't have to guess about what I have used.

Yes, it can be a real pain when you use several items from several different kits..BUT.. put yourself in the designers shoes for a minute. Do you realize how disappointing it is to see something that you have spent time creating in a layout and you are not even mentioned in the credits? I have been there. Please credit...always!
