I've been following the news all weekend and just wanted to see if anyone was in the area and if so hope all is well as it can be with all the rain and flooding.

The news footage of the flooding that we are viewing here in Australia is horrifying. Stay safe any GS members affected by the disaster.

We have family in Texas ( including Houston) as well as Louisiana. So far all are checked in and safe. ALot of rain in Florida, especially on the west coast ( us). We are ok.

I'm in Texas, the San Antonio area actually. We got some rain and a LOT of wind (some damaged trees but that's really about it. Some people around had some wind damage and we had some power outrages) but for the most part, we were lucky.
It's bad in Texas now. If you've seen the news you've seen the pictures. But we take care of our own down here. There's aid pouring in all over. My office has people volunteering to do and help leaving tomorrow. If I wasn't a single mom, I'd be right there with them.
This just breaks my heart. The beach is my escape. We make a trip down there every summer. It's only about a 2 hour drive for us. A lot of the places that are destroyed I've shopped, eaten, or stayed in.
As for Houston, my Dad was raised there, my sister has family there... I've been in and out of that city my whole life. To see it underwater is crazy. 20" in a day? It's mind blowing. And to know that there is possibly more on the way is just beyond my saddest thoughts.
We're talking about getting together this weekend and going to give blood. If you are anywhere near a blood bank and can, I would love it if you could. Even if it can't help here in Texas, it will help where you are. :)

I'm a regular platelet donor, I think I'm at 168, but have been kind of lazy of late. I will schedule and appointment tomorrow. The pictures are just heartbreaking. I was just watching it on the new now.

Houston is my hometown, but I don't live there anymore. My family all lives in the area though.

Both parents came through fine. A family near my mom's home had their infant washed out of their arms in the flood several days ago :( Heartbreaking.

Cousin in Friendswood lost his house. Aunt w/dementia lost everything in her assisted living home in Kingwood. Several other friends and family had flooding. One cousin lives a few miles from the Arkema plant that was on fire; he is a cancer survivor with breathing issues so he's been wearing a mask 24/7.

It's so hard to see what has happened to the place that I called home for so long.

It is devastating. My thoughts and prayers to all those suffering in Texas. And now we brace ourselves for Florida with Irma moving in. Seems like the storms are getting worse and worse over time.
