8x8 or 12x12?

My husband just got me a photo album with photo sleeves to put my scrapbook pages in! (I can't order a book because I don't do my pages chronologically) The book is 12x12 and it seems HUGE!! So, I'm just wondering, should I keep it or switch and get a 8x8? Will my 12x12 pages go down to the 8x8 without me resizing if I print them? I'm not sure what I want to do. Thanks!

I sent my layouts to Persnickety Prints, in the 12x12 size, and they've never had any issues printing at 8x8 :D

I do the same as Sarah. Persnickety does them just fine. I've also printed the same way at Costco and they were ok too (though the paper quality is much better at Persnickety). 12x12 seems gigantic to me, and they're twice the price, so I've always done 8x8.

I just did a mass printing at Christmas time for my family (400+ pages). I designed them 12x12, but I printed them all 8x8 and they still printed fine and the journal wasn't too small. I don't scrap chronologically either, but I don't think that should stop you from doing a printed book. I arranged my pages by person...so I did a unique album for my husband, son, daughter, sister, brother, nephew, and aunt. No one seemed to care that they were all over the place in terms of years...they loved them anyway.

I almost always print in 8 x 8. I print alot of mine at Sams Club (great price for the size). Even the books I print at Shutterfly are almost always 8 x 8 just because it's a better price. I just upload my full size 12 x 12 and they print just fine as 8 x 8...I only do 12 x 12 for special things....like my project life and my wedding album nowadays :)

I love 12x12! That's what all of my scrapbook pages have ever been! I like the pages bigger, so people with poor eyesight can read the journaling and see the pictures well. ;) I also usually scrap lots of photos on one page, so it's nice to be able to have more room for the photos.

I would keep them 12x12. ;) teehee

I'm with Colleen on 12x12 being better for people with bad eyesight. I did my project life last year as a 7x7 blurb book and it's kind of hard to read. I'm sure as I get older it's only going to be worse! But my main issue is space (well and money) I store all my 8x8 pages in 8.5 x 11 albums and I think they look nice on my shelves that way. I have a few 8x8 scrapbooks but I like being able to stick in memorabilia so 8.5x11 works better for that. I think the bottom line is- experiment and find what works best for you, your space, and your budget. :)

My husband is planning on building us a built in fireplace and bookshelf set up along the wall in our family room. One of the main things it must have? Room for 12x12 scrapbooks!!! ;)

Right now I keep them on a bookshelf in the office. Again - it was a bookshelf my husband made for me that I made sure fit 12x12 albums. ;) teehee

I agree with Jen though with doing what you think is best for you! :)

NOTHING but 12x12 for me! I've talked about the price difference to my husband (altho he sort of had a mini panic attack when he heard how much each of my books cost! ha!) But he said if I'm taking the time to make the pages, etc, that they should be printed big enough to see everything easily :D tee hee!

Thanks you guys! I went with the 12 x 12, partly because my husband told me to (I think because he had already bought it, lol) The 8 x 8 size is a lot smaller than I thought too!! So, today I just got all my pages printed from persnickity (about 100!!!)! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM!!!! I am so excited to get them in my book! Thanks for the help!! Yes, they are huge, but easy to see small pictures and writing!

Congrats Melissa, that's awesome! There is nothing better than a big stack of newly printed pages no matter what size they are :)
If you're not already, be sure to get on Persnickety's email list. They have excellent sales once a quarter or so.

Coming to this thread a bit late, but my favorite size of book is 10x10. It's the perfect size, and more publishers are finally using this size.

Kathryn, that size would've been perfect, but I didn't think anyone had books or printed in that size! I still love it anyway! My husband teases me about scrapping, but he really loved looking at all the pages. :)

I like mine 12x12 and yes, they are big but you can read the journaling better. Losing 4 inches is quite a bit. Go into Hobby Lobby and look at how small an 8x8 book is before you really decide.

I totally agree with Kathryn- 10x10 is PERFECT. I really wish more manufacturers would pick up on that and make albums and page protectors that size. I'd consider reprinting all my 8x8's if they'd do that.

I've never seen 10x10, but I agree that that seems perfect! I design all my pages 12x12 but print most at 8x8. I started an album for my nephew's son when he was born, and now I'm doing the same for his daughter. I'm working on a wedding album for my niece though, and I print those at 12x12. I love both sizes. :) Persnickety is the BEST!

I finally UL my p 52 yesterday ( 2012). I'm excited to get it printed. 66 pages.

in my paper scrapping days, I did several 7x7 books. They are fine and the journaling is readable. I think that's because it was scrapped that size and not bigger then shrunk down to fit.

ive not printed a 10x10, but I might one day.

I create 12x12 and print out 8x8's usually and they look great. Walmart can print out 8x8's in an hour.

I made a scrapbook with 12x12 pages last year, but I personally thought they were too big, so I redid it @ 8x8. I have never gotten a professional book made though - I print them from home - probably cheaper if I would go somewhere to have the printed!
