So last night my husband and I started watching Sound of Music. He had never seen it, never wanted to see it, and I probably have seen it twenty times. I was surprised that we made it through as far as we did because he doesn't like musicals at all. (When we used to watch Glee, he would fast forward through the songs.) we turned it off because it was really late when we started it, and I forgot that it was three hours long. So my question today is do you like musicals? And if so do you have a favorite? And if you don't like musicals, is there one that you can tolerate? I also can watch Chicago and Rent as well as the sound of Music over and over again. Oh and Fiddler on the Roof too. There is a downside to have made him watch the Sound of Music. All last night he was singing How do you stop a problem like Danica, instead of Maria. He even said watching it for that reason made it well worth it. Lucky me!!!

I LOVE musicals. Fortunately, my husband likes them as well. We have season tickets to our theater's musical season (6 shows a year) so we have seen many many shows over the years. When we were students (living in Boston) we also saw a zillion shows because student day-of tickets were SO CHEAP! We would also do weekends in NYC (my BFF lived a 5 minute walk from Times Square) where we would go Friday, see a show Friday night, Saturday matinee, Saturday evening, Sunday matinee, Sunday evening and then drive home! LOL! I miss the days of cheap student tickets!

My all time fave is Les Miserables. I have probably seen it around 30+ times, in many different cities and 3 different countries! Some others that I will see over and over again: West Side Story, Jekyll & Hyde, Scarlett Pimpernel, Hair, Cabaret, Wicked, Sound of Music, Singin' In The Rain, Chicago, Yankee Doodle Dandy. There are more that I am forgetting, but I will see anything at least once. The list of shows that I really did NOT like is much shorter (Cats and Nine are ones that top the list).

But, yeah, Les Miz tops the list. After seeing it so many times, a good performance can still make me cry and I still reread the book every few years. The only other one that can make me cry pretty consistantly after seeing it over and over is Yankee Doodle Dandy ("Don't you know the words, old man?").

Ok, I will stop now, before I keep going and going.

I have always liked them. I definitely see a ton more now since my 10 yo daughter is in musical theater. In the last 2 years, I have seen more musicals than I think all the years prior. We have seen Matilda, Phantom, Wicked, Beach Blanket Babylon - in the big theater and then children's theater - Seussical, Bugsy Malone, Peter Pan, Aladdin, Into the Woods, James & the Giant Peach, Shrek, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, 101 Dalmatians, School House Rock, Cinderella, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Servant of 2 Masters, and I am sure that I am missing a few! Those don't even count musicals on TV. It has become a whole new theater world for us.

I'm not a fan of musicals at all (or opera, or plays - for me they scream 'bore-fest' and I really could never sit still long enough to make it through a whole one). With that said, If I HAD to sit through one and had the choice, I'd be able to tolerate Wicked (just because of my love of witches, OZ and the whole back story), or American Idiot (because of of Green Day and the fact that they are my all time favorite band and their music being involved would somewhat hold my attention.

My parents love musicals so I grew up watching them. Some I love, some not so much. I always loved Sound of Music growing up and the classics like Oklahoma, Hello Dolly, The Music Man, etc. and I also love the modern musicals Grease, Mama Mia and Rock of Ages (which was hilarious as well as having great 80s music). I also love the animated musicals The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast and also Enchanted and Pitch Perfect.

LOOOOVE Them!! I did musical theatre all through high school and in college. I was Peppermint Patty in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, I was Rizzo in Grease, and I was Kanga in Winnie the Pooh. :) We did tons more stuff but not always big budget because it cost a fortune in royalties back then.

My favourite is Les Miz as well. I have the entire thing on disc and listen to it while I clean. :) I also love Singin in the rain, Chorus Line, and many others. :)

I love musicals!! But, the only ones I get to watch are usually animated ones. My boys are like your husband, Danica - they will mute TV shows or movies when the singing starts! It's so aggravating! I got them to watch Phantom with me, and they tried to mute the singing, but i wouldn't let them. I tried to get them to watch Grease recently...we made it through the first part, but as soon as Summer Lovin' started, they made such a fuss that I turned it off :36_11_20: A friend recently told me that her husband doesn't like musicals, but he enjoyed Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, so I'm going to try to get them to watch it... LOL! Good luck to me! :D
I love Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Phantom of the Opera...I think my favorite is The King and I. It's sad, but the music is awesome!

haha!! I love that he changed the lyrics! My husband does that all the time! I was just saying the other day that I would love to see the LIon King musical! Ive taken my kids to a couple musicals that they've liked - I think our favorite has to be Seussical the Musical! Loved all the songs and it was so fun!

I forgot to list one of my faves!! Little Shop of Horrors!! OMG, I love that one!

Tammy, Chris changes lyrics all the time too. You should hear his rendition of New York, New York. Ask me the next time we chat! LOL.

Love them! I was so excited when I got to see Wicked on Broadway for our anniversary and then Mary Poppins. Les Mis here in San Antonio, Wicked again, Phantom of the Opera is an all time favorite. My dad loves that kind of stuff so he had us watching things like that when we were kids...classics like Tale of Two Cities and Scarlet Pimpernel. Loved Mama Mia, Sound of Music and so much more. Hubby endures bc he loves me. :)
My oldest is 11 and chose theater for his elective and he is enjoying it...I am praying I have a thespian bc sports are not his thing at all. LOL

Love them!! Hubs and I used to watch often pre-kids. But man, the tickets seem so much more expensive than before. And x5, so expensive! I do want to take them to Wicked. Hopefully it comes back to the Bay Area. My all time favorite is Phantom. With Les Mes then Rent.

Closest thing to a musical I enjoyed was The Nutcracker but I've never seen one in person.
I love Disney movies, so I guess I do like musicals hehe

Mamma Mia is a big fave of mine though (Meryl Streep version)
