I had to take a little reading break for April -- everything had gotten so behind for me, and I just needed a breather! I did manage to find this fabulous-sounding book that I am just itching to read! (I read another book by the same author this past month and LOVED it)

For the month of May, we will be reading My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Backman

Here is the book description, according to Goodreads:

From the author of the internationally bestselling A Man Called Ove, My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She's Sorry is a novel about a young girl whose grandmother dies and leaves behind a series of letters, sending her on a journey that brings to life the world of her grandmother's fairy tales.

Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is seventy-seven years old and crazy, standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus-crazy. She is also Elsa's best, and only, friend. At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother's stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

When Elsa's grandmother dies and leaves behind a series of letters apologizing to people she has wronged, Elsa's greatest adventure begins. Her grandmother's letters lead her to an apartment building full of drunks, monsters, attack dogs, and totally ordinary old crones, but also to the truth about fairytales and kingdoms and a grandmother like no other.

I'm very hopeful that several of you will choose to read along with me (or join us for the mid-month discussion, if you've read the novel before). I know that the notice is short and the price of the ebook is a bit much...so I've picked up a copy of the book and will gladly lend to you, if needed. Just email me at [email protected]

Want your own copy? Pick up the e-book from
Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

I read A Man Called Ove and absolutely loved it. I got My Grandmother from the library but never had time to read it so will try again.

A Man Called Ove is a fabulous book -- I laughed, I cried, I hurt, I hoped...and I sped through it faster than I've sped through a book in a while. If people read My Grandmother and enjoy it, I could gladly share a copy of Man Called Ove with them :)

I have been reading Grandmother for a while...something seems to always happen when I get settled down to read. I have been enjoying it, I am 2/3 of the way so far :) I have been wanting to read Ove

I wondered what happen in April, but it turned out it was a good break for me as well. I won't be able to read this month as a guest CTM I think I will need to focus on that, but will keep the book on my list. Enjoy!

JoyLynn, I'd totally be up for reading this if haven't lent your copy out yet! It sounds like a great pick.

Just finished watching A Man Called Ove on Amazon Prime. Absolutely wonderful. Loving My Grandmother.

Just picked up my copy. I actually have the copy that is called "My Grandmother sends her Regards & Apologies." By Fredrik Backman. Not sure why there was 2 names for the same book but sounds like a fun read.

Oh my goodness -- First, I am SO sorry I'm just seeing this today. I was out of town several days last week, and then fighting a sinus infection (right along with my youngest son -- boo)! This post is actually from 2 years ago, and the book was read then. Eeks! I really thought all of the older posts were deleted.

BUT! It's ok! I thought it was fabulous book, certainly worth a second read if you followed along with us 2 years ago. And, if you didn't...then you're in luck, because like I said, fabulous book!

I'll use the poll I was going to post for May's book selection for June's book, and will post some questions May 10th to get the discussion going!
