Recommendations for all Young Adult & Teen books go in this thread.

Previously recommended YA&T Books:

"The Future of Us" by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler
Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout

Tomorrow when the war began - by John Marsden

Everyone should have read this. Doesn't matter what age, it is amazing.

Yes. I read the original Australian series during my stay in Canada (I lived there for 8 months). But the books really left a mark on me and I wanted to read them again. And again. So I decided to buy the books. The original ones were very pricy and hard to find for me (since I live in the Netherlands) and therefor decided to buy the Dutch translation. The only thing that bothers me in here is that the character Ellie is called Ellen in these books. I mean: why?!

Long story short: yes, I've very recently re-read all 7 books. And now I'm telling everybody about them. lol!

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Insurgent by Veronica Roth
Gone By Michael Grant (careful, this is the first book in a series of 5 so you might be reading for a while!)

Yes, and yes to the first two -- incredible stories! I can't WAIT for the third book (or the first movie!) :)

I haven't read Gone, yet...but it's on my To Be Read Soon list. Glad to hear someone else enjoyed it! :)

I'm anxiously awaiting Allegiant. I keep hoping my library lists it so I can put it on hold before it releases but I think it's too early for that :)

I just finished "The Queen of Water" by Laura Resau and Maria Virginia Farinango. It was amazing! It was all about an indigenous girl's life in Ecuador and how she went to work for a mestizo family when she was 7. It's a look into the cultural and societal differences. So good!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that loves the Divergent series!! I'm also anxiously awaiting Alliegent! I have it preordered so that it will auto-download into my nook when it releases lol! I'm going to be on vacation on release day, so I need it for poolside :)

I'm another Divergent fan and new to the site :D
I have Insurgent on my tablet Kindle app and have not finished it quite yet and Alliegent is coming soon! woot!

They have a release date for the Divergent 1St movie in March 2014 woohoo!

Another good distopian novel series is Legend by Marie Lu

If you are a fan of futuristic books, read "In the House of the Scorpion" by Nancy Farmer. Shows what we get into when we start using science and cloning people. Couldn't put it down!

Also, I recently read "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" and the second in the series, "Hollow City." Great time travel books! I can't wait for the 3rd one to come out and for the movie!

My daughter and I listened to the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage. There are seven books in the series and being a Harry Potter fan, she loved Septimus Heap. The magical world created is wonderful and has some amazing characters.

I've read the follow up series Tod Hunter Moon -- but my daughter didn't care for it. I liked it because some of the characters in the original Septimus series make an appearance in this, but there are a whole group of new characters and worlds to explore.

We also loved the Forbidden Library series by Django Wexler. We are anxiously waiting for the next in the series to be written. This is also a magical world and the main character is a young girl named Alice who has to learn how to use her magical abilities

I haven't heard of the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage - I'll have to check it out! I am a Harry Potter fan, and love a good magical book! Series are even better!

I've been right into the Stranded series by Theresa Shaver. I'm waiting for book 5 to come out. I will likely begin reading her other series too. It's quite interesting, and written in what feels like a very realistic way, without too much teenage angst.

I feel like YA has been turning out a lot of really mediocre reads of late. I don't think I've read many newer titles that I can recommend wholeheartedly.
The False Prince by Jennifer Nielsen: Anything she writes is going to be fabulous and this series is a great one for anyone, but especially boys who like fantasy and are starting to age out of children's fantasy. It follows an orphan boy who is taken by a group of people who intend to train him and then pass him off as the lost heir to the throne. Sage is just a wonderful character and the series is fast-paced and fun.
Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim - An Asian retelling of the Six Swans fairytale that was completely absorbing and fun to read.
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn - this one can get bogged down a bit at the beginning and employs some tropes that aren't always appreciated (like the love triangle) BUT the main storyline of this Arthurian based tale is exceptional and the ending makes every page worth the read.
