Ok..for all you girls who wanted to do some hybrid projects with me, here is your first project!! It's easy and fun and makes a great gift...so...here we go!

We are going to make a post-it-note-holder! Like like this one...
post-it-note-holder-pic.jpg

Pretty cute huh! I think they would make great little gifts!

So the first step is to go open your photo editing program, I use PSE6. Choose a kit, I used our Spring collab kit. Pick out the papers and any elements you want to use.
Measure your Post-it-note-pad, mine is 3x3 inches so I opened a new file in PS that was 4X4 inches, just a little bigger that the post-it's. Drag your paper onto the new file and resize it. You will also need a little piece for the clip. The best way to print it out is to open a new file that is 8.5x11 and drag your completed little square into that file...
Here is mine printed out...
post-it-printed-out.jpg

I printed enough little squares to make 3..why waste paper! See the little pieces for the clip. I print these on Matte photo paper. It's my choice for all my hybrid projects.
Next you need to cut them out, easy! Then lay your cut out square on a piece of chipboard, or if you done have any chipboard you can use thin cardboard, or even a recycled cereal box would do. Trace around your square and cut it out. Glue them together! I use the pioneer extra strong glue stick, Like this...use plenty of glue...get the edges real good...
post-it-glue-it.jpg

See, not hard so far! You following me? :)
Ok, now comes the fun part, of course these steps are optional but they will make your project POP!
I like to sand and ink my edges, the sanding makes the edges smooth and even and holds the glue down better. It also gives it a nice look.
And the inking really makes it look professional and give nice texture.
Here is my ink and sanding block, the ink is called "Distress Ink" the one I use is by Jim Holtz, it is a dye ink not a pigment ink, pigment ink takes too long to dry for distressing. Any dye ink will work. They are about $3.00-$5.00. The sanding block is by Making Memories from the scrapbook dept of the craft store, but you could use some sandpaper your hubby has laying around the garage. :)
Here are mine...
post-it-with-ink-and-sander.jpg

Here is a close up of the inked edges, after you sand, just take a Q-Tip and rub it in the ink then all around the edges of your project!
Here is a close up...
post-it-inked.jpg

See, still not hard :)!
Do the same steps to your little piece and glue it to the front of the clip.
Put your post it pad on your square and hold it together with the clip!
Of course, I like to add even more fun..so out comes the ribbon. Just tie it on the clip! Easy! Now I am not rich...LOL and all my ribbon came from the dollar store :) I threw a little piece of pink wire on there too!
Here is a close up!
post-it-close-up.jpg

So, what do you think!? Cute and easy! Cheap too. You can hang it on the wall right were you need it! :)
Here is a list of the supplies I used
PSE6, Printer, Matte Photo paper, Digi Kit/papers, chipboard, gluestick, binder clip, post-it-notes, ink, sanding block, ribbons.

So, lets see some hybrid girls! I am so excited to see what you all come up with!

Please post ANY questions you have!! ANY!

That is so cute Julie! What is chip board?

What brand of glue stick is that? I need some uber strong glue for my embellies since the one I've been using doesn't work as well anymore...

That looks awesome Julie! I will have to put that on my to do list :) And that is reasonably flat and could be mailed to my mom for Mother's day :)

Julie- You KICK BUTT!!! hm will I get the ****??? Well If I do B U T T :)

We need to advertise that your doing this!! It is gonna be so fun :)

No a regular glue stick does not work as well, I use this one...
The Pioneer Extra Strong Embellishment Glue Stick

Thanks.. I know regular glue sticks aren't that great, but somehow, my normally good glue stick isn't sticking so great.. :( That made me sad. I'll definitely pick-up some of this glue... that made me happy. :)

Also, I use regular old nail files to sand my chipboard, too... I picked-up these great 4 sided nail files for under a buck someplace or another. They work great... so if someone can't find the sanding block or sand paper, maybe they can raid their purses! :)

Thanks for the really cute project. Can't wait to make a few!

I'm so excited!! Also, I just wanted to add, that most $ Stores now have a scrapping section because its gotten so popular so you may want to check there as well for distress ink and embellishment glue! I have to go to walmart today so I'll be picking up the supplies for this today!! I can't wait! Good job Julie!

Jenn...Yes, those big nail files work great! Thanks for adding that!

Misty..Hmm a deadline..how about 2 weeks...so, like around May 1st (Edit..No deadline, just have fun!)

Marie...That is so true, the dollar store near me has a huge scrapbooking section, I get all my ribbons there and buttons too, and Wal Mart has tons of stuff too, and the great thing about Wal Mart is you can get your craft supplies and your groceries in one stop! Wal Mart is 45 minutes from me, but I still go there!

I can't wait to see hows your turns out!!

Hey Julie, Have you had any problems with the ink from your printouts fading or getting moisture on it and ruined? I know with inkjets the ink isn't real permenant. I was just wondering what experience you've had with it.

In the past (before I was a busy mommy) I would use art fixidant spray to spray some of my printed out stuff then I can use stuff like modge podge on it. But I think It still fades. . .

I haven't had any problems with fading but on a lot of my projects I do spray them with a clear acrylic spray, and from what I understand mod podge works fine with printer ink as long as you print on good matte paper.

Ooo I aparently need to be using different paper! I usually use cardstock, normal paper, or glossy photo paper.

The fading does take years. Spraying may help, I didn't do that with my older projects. Stuff that is constantly in the sunlight is also more likely to fade. I have a clipboard with pictures and notepads and stuff on it that I gave to Ryan's mom and she has it on her fridge. The sunlight shines on it everyday and it's faded really bad, but I made it 6 years ago I believe. I didn't spray it. I'm curious to know if that slows or even stops the process.

I've talked to Ryan about getting a professional printer that uses a different kind of ink, but so far it's still to pricey. Anyone have one of those? do you like it?

By the way, this project is super cute! I may have to try it out, then give it away, then hubby can't complain about me having too much "junk" around before we move. LOL!

ooo I am so excited!! this weekend I am heading out to buy all the necessaries

I can still spend time with the fam AND scrap a bit, lol

Well, so much for getting what I wanted to last night :frown: DH decided that he was going to "monitor" our spending this week. BLeh!!! Hopefully though after this weekend I can head out and get what i need! LOL!

Oooh, I know where I'm dragging my husband while the car is getting it's brakes fixed!! Michael's, here I come!!
This would be perfect for my mom, and for my sister :)

Cute project! I'm in. I'm going to go the no spending route and use stuff I have laying around the house.

These would make great teacher appreciation gifts!!!

I couldn't find chipboard at Michael's today. I either just didn't see it or they didn't have any. Julie, where do you get yours? Do they have it at Wal Mart?

I got that distressed ink in Vintage Photo
Some Cutter Bee scissors (I cannot find my fiskar thing with the slide cutter - have no idea what it's called - but I think it's in storage)
a crap ton of ribbons - they had some 5 for $1 rolls going on (reg .50 ea) and I got some really cute $1 a roll. I figure if I don't use it for this I can always extract some for kits.

Still need to get the big bracket - only saw the small ones at Michael's. And some chipboard. I don't want to use cardboard.

Oh and matte paper.

and some wire. Where do you get that wire??

I am heading out again tomorrow, so Julie, if you see this let me know about the chipboard & the wire. Thx

I cant believe you couldn't find chipboard at Michael's, they must have been out because I know they carry it..I got mine at Ben Franklin, its our local craft store, they sell it by the sheet for like $1.00 a sheet or so. I live in the country...Michaels is like 45 min away.
IDK if Wal Mart has it, the Wal Mart I go to (45 min away again lol) has a pretty big scrappin section, I've seen the little chipboard tags and letters there but i haven't really looked for the 12x12 pieces there. I hope you can find it, it is nicer than cardboard. :)
The wire you can get at Wal Mart it's in the beading section, that's what I had it for it's 24 gauge beading wire, they should have a few different colors.
The binder clip you can get at Wal Mart too but in the school supply section the Matte photo paper too.

Okay, totally OT but you just made me miss Indiana with the mention of Ben Franklin. They don't have *anything* like that here in Kansas. Even Hobby Lobby is half empty most of the time [and only open 9am to 6pm].

And I forgot to check Walmart while I was there. :( I was going to snag a picture with my phone, if they did, so I could give an accurate idea on cost. *grumble*

Yay! I finished my first hybrid project (Kit credits are in gallery).

I made mine 4"x6" and added this month's and next month's calendars so they were handy. I printed it on cardstock since wear isn't anything I needed to worry about since I'd make a new one for June and July. It printed perfectly using normal print settings. I kept my clip black because I liked how it matched the black doodles and just used some ribbon scraps I had laying around.

Thanks SO MUCH for this project idea.

Thanks ladies! It was a lot of fun and super quick and easy! I think it took me longer to do the photo shoot. LOL

Thanks again, Julie! I ordered some of those glue sticks, too. I couldn't find them locally, but definitely want to try them.
