Default June 2014 - Brush Challenge

    Hello!

I am so excited to hosting the Brush Challenge this month. I LOVE using brushes!! I have several thousand brushes! Not only do I enjoy collecting them, but I LOVE making them just as much as using them!!

One of the things I love to make with brushes are paper mask. Paper Mask is very similar to a photo mask, but larger. It allows you to "blend" papers, giving your background layout a different look. This month, I created a set of grid brushes for you to play with.

Click to download Karen Diamond Designs Grid Brushes. ABR and PNG files included.

Here is a sample of using the Grid Brushes that Sheri, a member of my Creative Team, created for you.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

    Monthly Challenge Rules -

Starting March 2014 we will start accumulating points for the challenge collab.

    • You will receive the collab of the month in which you COMPLETE your 10 challenges.

      For Example:
You do 5 in March, 2 in April and 6 in May - you would get the May collab.
You do 7 in March and 4 in April - you get the April collab
You do 10 each month you get EACH Collab!! (BEST DEAL!!)
    • Challenge rewards will be sent out after the 5th of the month
    • All challenges layouts must have at least 50% of GS products - Daily Download and Welcome wagon counts. (See individual challenge rules for specific rules on usage such as Designer Spotlight Challenge)
    • Speed Scraps and Chats DO NOT count towards your challenge rewards (of course your host will usually provide fun goodies for all attending their SS or Chat)
    • Every challenge must have a unique LO. Meaning, you can not use the same LO for more then 1 challenge.
    • You are responsible for tracking your completed challenges, find the monthly tracking thread in the "Cookie Jar", and follow the guidelines.

    Challenge Rewards:

Complete any 10 challenges, and you will receive a brand new designer collab!
Each month we will offer a brand new GingerBread Ladies collab as a reward for completing the GS challenges.

What great brushes, Karen! I'm just now really getting into brushes (yes, I've been living in a fog for the past 5 years!), so I don't have many brushes beyond what came with PS CS3. For the time being, I'm trying to acquire super-duper handy ones good for a variety of purposes, especially for working with papers and filling in backgrounds. That's why your grid brushes are da bomb! I can tell already that I'll be using them a lot ...

BTW, your layout is so sweet. Everything about it is nice ... like the hues used with the grids, the embellishments, and the quote. Best of all, though, are the PHOTOS! What an adorable young man! He is so cute!!! Love the diamond-patterned sweater, the hat, and those giant smiles. I bet he's a laugh-a-minute!

Newbie question here... Can you change the color of the brush or I guess it would be tge "ink"? Abd if so how? Please tell Sheri thst her layout is awesome. Great example of how to use this brush - I work so much better with examples. I am also so going to use the wording. I love taking pictures of people laughing almost as much as I like hearing it.

I love hearing my kids laugh!! It really lightens my heart.

As far as your question. There are many, many ways to use a brush. Here are a couple of ways:

    1. Pick your color and make sure it's the foreground color. Activate the brush, create a new layer, and "stamp" the brush onto your canvas. That will get you a colored stamp.

    2. Pick the color black, this time, and make it your foreground color. Activate the brush, create a new layer, and "stamp" the brush onto your canvas. Now, you have a black stamp. "Clip" your favorite kit paper to it. This works for large density brushes, not necessarily for grids, but give it a whirl and see what you come up with.

I love brushes!! I have lots of them in my store. I am not sure if they are all activated yet, but hoping to get them in a couple of weeks. This next week, is busy planning and creating my dd birthday party. She wants a Doctor Who Murder Mystery. Fun, Fun, Fun!

I can't take credit for this beautiful layout. Sheri, one of my CTM, made this for me. I was running out of time when trying to meet my deadlines, so she stepped in and was able to help me. She did a wonderful job!! Thank you, Sheri!!
