That's too funny because my DH and DS think so too!

When I was making mine, they both came in and asked "what the heck is that?" So I showed them pics on the web ...and that freaked them out even more!

We used to have those elves as ornanments when we were kids, so I dont find them creepy. In fact my mom was talking to me this past week about how she could pull her antique elves out of the attic and use them instead of buying an Elf on the Shelf for her grandchildren.

First i have to DITTO and say i think elves r creepy (don't like yard gnomes or cupids either)

that being said i LOVE this tradition and wish i had a way to include it in my house. i would have a very very very naughty elf (ok not quite like the one photo LMAOOOOO but the prankster kind) today was the first time in the non digi world i heard of this (thanks for letting me know what they were talking about!!!!)

their elf decided during the night to put flour on the table and make a snow/flour angel with the sons name in it making it look like he did it! our Christmas traditions are all about practical jokes so this would have been AWESOME...(and i would have made my own and made it less creepy LOL)

never tried elf on the shelf.... I always told my kids the red flash on the smoke detectors was the cam sending a report to santa. I think maybe i can find one. Every one I have seen is like $30

These are hilarious! I've been thinking about starting this year and these are some pretty funny ideas! Especially because my kids are still young so it would be more for my hubby and I.

We had ours last year for the first year - the first day my oldest (than 6) cried because he didnt watn him to be real and my daughter (than 4) ran up and touched him and he tipped off the shelf and totally freaked her out. It was pretty funny! But he just popped out today and my oldest said "I"m not afraid of him anymore Mom!" It was cute. I have all sorts of fun ideas for him to be doing - hopefully I remember to move him!!

To remember to move your elf I suggest an alarm on your "smart" phone :-) Thats the only way I seem to remember anything anymore! LOL!!
