I have a perfect example of this. When we adopted our son from Korea, we had the option of having him escorted to the United States or picking him up in Korea. I get motion sickness and the thought of being on an airplane that long with a child that didn't know me was absolutely terrifying. So we chose to have him escorted. But everytime I see pictures of my friends who flew to Korea, I wish I had gone for it. They have these amazing photos and say what an awesome experience it is to meet their child's foster family, see where they were born, etc.

So, when we decided to adopt again, I thought, "We should do it! We should go to Korea!" But this time I had the same fears, plus the fear of having to either take Kaden with us and dealing with a toddler on the plane AND a baby, or having to leave him behind with my family and the thought of him missing out. Long story short, I talked myself out of it again and we had her escorted too.

I need to get over myself. Seriously.

Oh Tricia ... please don't feel bad - you did what you had to do - end of story! That's water under the bridge - focus on your beautiful children! Okay, stepping off of my soap box.

I would say I'd go with dull and safe too - but I think it is because of my age. Being 51 ... I'm set in my ways - I like things to stay boring and dull ... I'm too old for too much adventure!

I'm 25, unmarried and have no kids, but that just makes the decision harder since I have nothing pulling me to one side or the other. The decision is only for myself, although it would affect others people directly.

Safe is great, comfortable, steady...but boring. And sometimes disappointing.

Adventurous is also great, exciting, spontaneous...but confusing. And completely unknown.

    LE SIGH.

Whatever it is, go for it! We all have had to match adventurous decisions. Hence why I'm married AND have kids, lol! You're only young once. Obviously, we don't want you going and doing something stupid that would hurt others, but besides that~ go have fun! (I hope that's what you were hoping to hear!)

It totally depends on the topic. There are times where safe is best... others where the unknown is best.... But even "safe" is rarely dull for me Life is the adventure you make it.

I would like to add when I was younger, not that I think I am old now at 34, I would have definitely said adventurous and unknown. I did make several choices where the outcome was clearly unknown. I worry too much now. Having a child will clearly alter your choices.
