Hey all... I just wanted to apologize to any of you that may have seen or been annoyed by the recent spam onslaught. We are working on figuring out what hole the spam bots are getting through. Please be assured that it does not put you, or your computer in any danger. It is just super annoying!
We are working hard to fix the problem, and also delete the spam posts as soon as we see them, but please just know we are aware of the issue and working to resolve it.

just to let u know...it is an update needed for VB that however has not yet been created but is being worked on. many VB sites r having this issue right now. they are getting past everything. maybe this will help u will some of the researching :)

Yes, the spammers were hitting me hard too, but I have it set so I approve all first posts and then I deal with the spammers behind the scenes. After a person posts the first time and I approve it, a script runs and they have all privileges. I figured out that the spambots like to put links in signature lines for "link love" to boost sites rankings. So I have it set so unless their first post is approved, they cannot change signature lines either. They don't like me.

Yeah, I am seeing the spam problems in a lot of other sites too. It's definitely very annoying. Appreciate all the hard work Ginger and also to all of you who reported the spam so quickly.

However it can be quite annoying for new users that want to join a Speed Scrap or just don't like waiting for me to approve their post. Unless I'm on the computer 24/7 it is really hard to manage.
