I'm doing laundry, taking pictures for Week in the Life and I hear a *SPLOOSH* as I grab some clothes out of the bedroom. Somehow, the camera fell INTO the washer (it apparently turned itself off).

I've got the battery out, and the pictures came off the card with no issues (both were dry, THANK GOD). I'e got it sitting in rice.

I feel like I'm going to puke, though. I love this camera! I've only had it since January! I've NEVER killed something this fast.

So, if you're a prayers person, keep my lovely A3400 in your prayers and thoughts. She's been a good girl, and she doesn't deserve to go out like this!!

Oh, no, hope it dries out ok! Keep in rice several days before even thinking about turning it back on. Regarding killing something so fast, I once killed a vacuum cleaner the first day we had it (ran over the cord and chewed it up), LOL!

Oh Nooooo! Best of luck on your camera. I would feel sick too.

Goodness, Cathy! I don't feel so bad now about killing it so early. Thus far, I don't think it's completely dead. There's only a small portion of rice that's wet. The battery and mem card section had just a few drops. I'm worried about the lens now.

YIKES, Sarah!! Good luck to your camera, hope she pulls through!

I kill plants all the time! Maybe not the same day, but the next day, sooo NOT a green thumb!

hehe, Em!
My husband jokes that I have a "black thumb". No matter what I do, I kill all the plants!

Oh my Sarah!
A rice camera. Hope it comes through!

I think it's safe to say it's gone :'(
It's turning on, no issues. Saves pictures. No issues.
But there's no picture. Meaning the picture is BLACK :'( The lens is gone. It's not the LCD, because that's working with no issues.

oh Sarah!! :(

Is it insured? At least you were able to get the latest pictures off...

Sarah

Even insurance/warranty on it wouldn't cover water damage.

Oh no, Sarah!! It really is broken?! Let it sit a little while longer. Maybe it needs to dry out completely for a few days?! :(

Even insurance/warranty on it wouldn't cover water damage.
Really?! That's dumb....Im sorry :(

Warranty is only through Canon, and it's pretty much void after water damage. It's not a flaw in the manufacturing. It's a flaw in the owner ;)

The good news is that as soon as budget allows, I have found a replacement, that actually has better specs and is really what I need (until I can afford the $900 upgrade for the Rebel that I currently have): Canon PowerShot ELPH 320 HS 16.1 MP Wi-Fi Enabled CMOS Digital Camera with 5x Zoom 24mm Wide-Angle Lens with 1080p Full HD Video and 3.2-Inch Touch Panel LCD (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0075SUJVK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0075SUJVK&linkCode=as2&tag=thesmortothes-20)http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=thesmortothes-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B0075SUJVK

just a thought...if its the lens...couldn't u replace just the lens to save money until you get your upgrade? sorry to hear it. my old camera all that broke was the plastic piece for the battery slot. (can't replace body :( ) this was my fav camera i had for years and could use it blindfolded so never had to figure out where stuff was. may yours RIP :(

It's a point and shoot. It would cost more to replace the lens than buying a new camera.

That's the camera that fell in the water. I have a DSLR, so I have a "back-up" but holy crap, that thing is bulky and does not fit in a pocket (which I need for field trips and the like). Yeah, I have a phone, but I lost 80% of the battery in an hour yesterday, just using that camera hehe

BOO!! :( Looking at it positively though - at least you didn't lose any of your photos! That would make it 100 times worse!

If I would have lost my pictures, I would have been so mad!
I'm going to attempt to let it dry another day or two (I'm not even going to be home a chunk of tomorrow, so that's a plus to making that happen, hehe) and then I'm going to see if it helped. It's still in rice, so hopefully that helps.

My daughter has an ELPH (a different model) and really likes it.

A lot of the vloggers I watch have one (of several different makes and models), so it looks to be the good one.
Plus, it records in 1080p, and I'm already spoiled by my webcam that records in that. :D

So sorry to hear about your sweet camera Sarah. Ugh ... how awful. I hope it survives after sitting in the dry rice.

Cathy ... I did the EXACT same thing. I ran over the cord of my brand new vacuum cleaner the very first time I used it, lol. It was an expensive one too ... a Kirby (back in the day). It didn't kill it. It just killed the cord ... and of course it was great fodder for my hubby to razz me about, lol. :tease:

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... happy for what you saved and the pic with the rice is priceless.

There is a camera guy here in Tampa that I swear can fix anything. He got mushed bananas out of a camera I had [2006]. Cam TEk on Busch Blvd.
m
ps- the banana mush was courtesy of SW airlines when I placed my breakfast banana with the camera bag [forgot to eat] and Bill placed over head. Rough flight....

I doubt we have anything like that here, that's cheap. We have a camera shop, but honestly, it's cheaper to just upgrade. I can't afford to fix it right now, nor upgrade. :(

Leave it in the rice for awhile. My friends kid decided to wash his iPod touch one day and completely soaked it. She put it in rice for a few weeks and one day it just turned itself back on and still works to this day.

It's not the actual electronics parts that are messed up. It's the lens itself. The sensor on it got fried/killed :(

My uncles theory is that anything left alone long enough will fix itself. This theory has proven itself time after time. So there is still hope!!

Sarah

That's why it's still sitting in a bag of rice hehe

Did you ever get the lens working again? If the camera is ok and you just need a lens, you should check Craigs List for a used one. You can find a lot of great deals on there for lenses.

No, it's gone :( the sensor is dead. Since it's a p&s without a removable lens, there's not really much I can do.
