So...it's 2011..Did u get your photo of the day for day 1? Here is mine. We had family from out of town visiting and had dinner at my BIL/SILs home. Had some board game fun. What did you take a pic of on the first day of the year?

I've gotten days 01 and 02 ... I'm waiting until later to see if any packages arrive via the mail/FedEx before I take it. I'm expecting THREE packages ... 2 via USPS and one via FedEx and no one's updated since the 30th.

Okay, USPS updated ONE package but I don't know if it was too late to get on the truck for Jeff {our mailman} to deliver ;) ... it's macro filters for my camera.

Have a couple of questions for you girls that have done this before. Because there is quite a bit of writing on the layouts, what font(s) do you like best? Also, when you are taking the pictures, do you jot down notes or just have a good memory? Any tips appreciated.

Colleen

I actually just use Myraid Pro. I wanted to use a font that was easy to read and "classic", so I went with something on the boring side! ;) I did do misc LOs each month though. For those LOs, I used the smiley monster font.

I don't jot down notes when I do this. I usually start the year off on top of things and scrap things pretty quickly. Then I start to slack off and am always playing catch up! LOL I do seem to remember things though no matter when I scrap. When I scrap the photos right away, I tend to have more to say which is just crazy because I have lots to say when I don't either! LOL

I hope this helps! :)

I'm using Lorelei on mine this time around but I used a variety.
Another classic fav is "Pupcat" :)

I switch mine up a bit, but i like the look of different fonts, I do use Pupcat alot! and traveling typewriter. I have a few faves. I usually remember why I took a picture. But I really make myself keep ontop of it. I work on my LOs a little bit every day or every other day during the week.

Thanks ladies, I'll check these fonts out. I don't think I've ever heard of Pupcat but will check it out.

Now I have to get some templates and get busy.

Sarah

Don't forget she has sets of templates PERFECT for P365!!

I noticed that some of you have a white (or black) border around your photos. Is that just a stroke or something, or is it something added to the photo? I think this year I would like to put a border around them. I haven't decided if I want to use Julie's awesome day of the week stamps or not yet. Just wanted to know what everyone else is doing!

I do like that font! I think I might try it for my 365 journalling! However, I like to ramble, and I'm not sure how small I can go on the journalling before it gets too small to read. I'm thinking of printing 8x8. (I am doing Persnickity this year! FOR SURE!)

Persnickity printed all mine in 8x8 last year. I can read the journaling fine. some are a little small, but good.

I used Pea Tracy font on mine and really liked it.

Sara, the black and white inset borders I used I did like this:
selected the square
contracted the selection by 20 pixels
converted to a work path
stroked either black or white by 5 pixels

Tedious huh? that's why I made actions after like the second page. What program are you using? I'm using CS4. I could get those to you if they'd be compatible. though for some reason it puts the layer in weird places after doing the first one, I just find it and put it above my picture layer.

I have taken a picture each day so far...but nothing uploaded. I'm not sure what font I will use, but I am fairly sure I'll use a typewriter font of some sort. I have a few to pick from. I'm excited to get my pictures uploaded, but being on vacation for the first 4 days of the year threw me for a loop. In addition I'm sick, Gabe is sick and my husband was sick. Eeek!

A stroke would be a LOT easier ;) You can still add shadows (I do it with stroke *all* the time). Just uncheck the little box at the bottom when you're in the dropshadow section :)

Getting "off" subject here, but how would you calculate the use of a template into the % of GS used???? I am going to be using the week border freebies by Julie and the 365 Scrap Your Life Collab, but I will be using non-GS templates. Just hoping they still fit into the 75% GS.

I used non-GS stuff for elements and things ... I think a template would count for less than 25% ;)

Of course everyone's awesome! I can only think of a few incidents (NOT HERE!) that I've heard of that haven't been awesome! Overall~ I think we all are a bunch of desperate housewives needing time away from kids, having some "me time." (OK, so that was me when I started- I guess I'm overgeneralizing us all! lol)

OK- so I have another question. Each month (as far as I can see), had a specific designer giving out the PPs. I believe that:
February- Statements by Jodi,
March- PhotoCowGirl,
April- Harmonystar,
June- Scrappy Cocoa,
August or September- Kathy Winters,
November- Unforgettable Moments,
December- Pretty in Green.

So (finally the question!), who was January, May, July, August/September (opposite of Kathy Winters), & October? I sort of want to split up my months that way a little bit.

I did because the $15 was a dollar cheaper than all of the extras from Ginger *plus* had a couple things I missed because they never ended up in the store from what I could tell :O

Yeah I did. I had to use my cookie jar coupon somewhere! I was just wanting to know if anyone remembered. I kinda wanted to do how Trina had hers- a specific background for certain months. Certain elements only for specific months. I guess it really doesn't matter too much. Just I realized this after those old threads disappeared, so I couldn't look for myself! I think that Mandymade was the first month that I participated in- so maybe the May. Most of them just had an overall theme, but a few had specific themes.

Oh, I know! I asked her a few months ago where to find it. Not a good idea! All I have to say is that they were 50% off, but they still were quite pricey after that! I probably could have bought everything off my wish list twice here and paid less! (OOPS!)

Sarah

Oh, I totally agree! They were definitely nuts in the prices =/

Question - I am going to do P52 but not really taking a photo a day. I am going to do a weekly update of highlight of the week but I am not sure how to start. Do you pick what you want for the week highlight and then scrap that? I just am having problems getting started.

You really can do it how you want. I did the 365 about 1/2 of last year, and there were weeks that were just blah! So I would "highlight" an activity or 2, and just do journalling for the other days. (Sometimes not, but most of the time I did.)

Quick questions...what size are you all printing off? I am thinking 8 x 8 but I am not sure. Also do you guys do single pages or create a book? Kinda want to get a plan before I do too many...I am really enjoying this!

Sarah

I'm going to print at 8x8.

trina513
01-13-2011, 03:21 AM
just submitted last years to print one page - an 8x8 and a 12x12. To make sure I can see everything I want at 8x8 - if I can and its ok - I'll do that - since its cheaper. Altho all my other books are done at 12x12 so IDK. I might try a bound book with this as well - even tho my other are "scrap books"

Juliemomof4
01-13-2011, 03:54 AM
I printed mine last year at 8x8. They look perfect. I printed them off in single pages and put them in a scrapbook in page protectors, I was thinking about doing a bound book, which would be cool...but as single pages, if one of the kids messes up one of the pages I dont have to reprint the whole book, just the messed up page. :) BTW, everyone loves my 365 album :) Its on the table and everyone looks at it.

Colleen
01-13-2011, 10:52 AM
I was going to print a bound book, but I am just worried about it getting ruined with the kids. My daughter loves to look at my pages, so I think I am going the single pages and page protector route. This was after much debate and actually loading the pages to an actual bound book and having it come to a ridiculous amount of money!!

I am planning on printing 8x8 for my P365 books. All my other books have been 12x12. I wish I could go back and change them to 8x8 too! ;)

trina513
01-13-2011, 03:13 PM
Thats my philosophy w/ the kids' books too Julie - I want them to be able to look at them and enjoy them - if it was a bound book and the page got ripped - I'd be majorly bummed! So I do individual in a scrapbook. And now that you girls said that about P365 - I might have to do that for them too....

Now I can't wait to get the phtoo order I placed last night that has 1 8x8 in it :) I should go proof the rest of my pages and get them uploaded - cuz as soon as I get it I'll want to prnt! DH keeps asking if I've ordered it yet! ;) Funny that he's so excited about it!

I do my printing little by little all thru the year too, that way it's not one big huge order at once. I just got my last bit of 2010 in the mail the other day! Yea! its all done!! It is fab! Persnickity does a great job and all orders using the code (gingerscraps) get 10% off.

I have tried printing 12 x 12's and other digital LO's at my local stores here...but never had any really successes yet. The last order (xmas cards I scrapped) the colors were all wrong and they cut off edges, with the re-orders and stuff...I got frustrated and bought an e-All-in-One HP Officejet 7500 E910 printer, it does so much but the best feature that it prints 13 x 19 inches. It was a pretty good price. I love it. I just wait for 12x12 photo paper to go for buy 1 get one free and it like 1.50 - 2.00 a LO. Not bad!

I definitly like the idea of a bounded book. I think I might try this!

I do have a silly question/s? Should/Could I use the month and year on each 365/52 layout or do you think it's redundant? I'm not very good at keeping things organized on my Hard drive so I miss placed the LO at least it's on the LO! I got a new Hard drive 2T and moving things over from 1T that I want to keep and trying to organize it.....ugh!...But It does feel like christmas all over again when I find something cool! I can`t believe one can accumalate so much stuff in 1 year......lol! Any suggestions on digital organization or a application that might help....

I organize my stuff in files. Example - I have a folder for GingerScraps and inside that folder, is individual folders for each designer. In the designers file, there are files of the kits (each file is the kit name). I'd do a screen shot but I'm at work. I'm sure each of us have a different way of organizing.

I do organize similar to Melissa (Shortcake), but there is also a blog post the GS blog about organizing scrapbook downloads that you may want to consider as well. Here (http://gingerscraps.net/gsblog/2008/05/organize-scrapbooking-downloads/)

In addition to what the others have added about organization, I made another file for LOs I want to print...called "To Be Printed" I save the jpegs that are already resized to account for bleed and all I have to when ready to print is upload the folder. Once I order, I clear it and start over. I have the original LOs elsewhere in other files so I know I can come back to them if I need to.

What I do with my 365 LOs, is lable them by year, then week.... so my file names are like this: 2011_365_week_1, etc. That way, I have no problem finding them! I used to have my 365 in my GS folder, but I have since then moved it to my main scrapping folder. That way, if I decide to go and participate in other site's 365, I know just where to look!
